    バグダディがいるのがわかっているのに逮捕ないし殺害する前に米軍を撤退させるという判断をしたのはなぜなのだろう？しかもその後にシリア北部の油田を守るとして舞台を残すという判断をして、その後にバグダディ殺害作戦を実行したという順番になったのかがよくわからない。

    多くの人にとって、バグダディがイドリブにいたというのは驚きだった。米軍のシリア撤退によって環境は大きく変わるため、米側にとっては作戦を急ぐ必要があったという。

    彼女の情報によると、この夏拘束された２人の男から、CIAはバグダディの潜伏先を突き止めた。ロシアとシリアが制する空域下のイドリブの屋敷の中に、妻の１人と使用人とともにおり、民間人も同居していた。彼はそこから他の場所に移動しようとしていたが、結局動かなかった。

    1. Two sources have confirmed to the New York Times that Baghdadi’s location in Idlib was confirmed as far back as early July, so 3.5 months ago. I spent months working on his obituary. Here’s what I can share now:

    Will Baghdadi's death facilitate the reunification of al-Qaeda with ISIS? Qaeda has been consolidating its position in Syria via its local stalking horse, Hurras al-Din. With no clear ISIS heir apparent, a voluntary merger with Qaeda or absorption of remaining ISIS is plausible.
