"We hope that Mr. Barr will act promptly to remedy, at least in part, his prior failure to recuse himself from the Ukraine Matter," the association said in a statement.

The NYCBA continued, "If he fails either to recuse himself or to resign, Mr. Barr should be subject to appropriate Congressional sanctions, including possible removal from office, in order to restore the Office of the Attorney General and the DOJ to their historic roles as defender of the law on behalf of the American people."

Barr was mentioned in the whistleblower complaint that centered around President TrumpDonald John TrumpSchedule for additional depositions in impeachment inquiry revealed Sondland attorney disputes key portions of Taylor testimony: report Impeachment inquiry might be public by mid-November: report MORE's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksky. The complaint became the catalyst for the House Democrats' impeachment inquiry launched last month.

The spokesperson for the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to The Hill for comment.
