Can’t fix wrong time on Echo Wall Clock

Just after I finished pairing my new Echo Wall Clock and the hands moved themselves to the correct time, I heard my daughter say “look, there’s no glass over the hands” and before I could say anything she had started moving the minute hand. She immediately put it back, but the time has been wrong ever since and I can’t figure out how to fix it. Tried asking Alexa several different ways but she doesn’t know what I’m talking about. Any suggestions?

It might be toast. There is probably a reason they include this in the instruction book:

Important: To avoid damage, don't touch, push, or move the clock hands.

level 1

Seriously there is no covering on the clock hands? You think for thirty dollars it would have least have a cover to keep dust out of it.

level 1

Is the time off consistantly I.E. ten minutes fast? If so you could try moving the hands to the right time otherwise try to return it

level 1

No idea if will work, but have you removed the batteries and put them in again? Or pressed that pairing button on the back for a long time -- that's the kind of thing that might reset the thing.

If the hands still move, it seem like it just needs to be reset.

Update #2: when I re-paired it yesterday it set itself to the correct time, but this morning it was about a half hour slow. I guess moving the hands, even just a few inches like my daughter did, has broken it.

Thanks for your suggestions. I took the batteries out, re-paired it, and now it seems to be working properly. I did read that warning in the manual, but my kid was too fast for me to stop her. I really question the rationale of having the hands so vulnerable to damage.

level 1

And this is going to happen often to people, despite the warning. Was it really too expensive to put a plastic cover over the face? Even the cheap plastic wall clocks at Walmart have them. Something that could be damaged by moving the hands certainly should. SMH.

level 1

Mine is setting itself to 12:05 and then it doesn’t keep time from there.

level 1

I had the same issue and finally fixed it with the following steps:

  1. unpair the device from you echo

  2. press the pot button five times to reset the clock. The hands will move to 12:00.

  3. Remove and replace batteries.

  4. Start the setup again with “Alexa, set up my wall clock”

  5. Hold down the pair button until the light turns orange

Once the clock is repaired my clock did a full cycle from 12:00 to 12:00 and eventually continued to reset the time correctly and confirmed it was done.

Thanks, I tried this and will report back

just wanted to add just tried this and it seems to be working

level 1

Mine was 2 minutes fast. It appears that you cannot push the hands, but you can lift them off and reattach them. I did this to correct the time.

I needed to add Worcestershire sauce to my shopping list. Instead of copping out and asking her to add Lee & Perrins, I opted to see if she understood what I said.

I was floored when she not only understood, but correctly read back, "I've added Worcestershire sauce to your shopping list."

Having said that, she still misunderstood when I asked her to turn off the bedroom light later that same day. Oh, Alexa!

My wife went down this morning and none of the dots were working. She unplugged them and plugged them back in and she got the blue spinning rings. After walking away for a while she came back and they were all off and not responding. Now they will not do any power on. We have tried holding down the volume down and mute button for 30 seconds and the action button for 30 seconds and nothing helped. I contacted support and they could not help either. Just curious if anybody else has recently seen anything similar. Because all three died at once with no weird weather and nothing else failing, I am wondering if there was some sort of failed firmware update or something.

Update (10/16): It took some effort, but I reached out to support again today and they opened a ticket and escalated to engineering. The engineer agreed that it is likely related to a recent firmware update. No resolution as of yet, but at least engineers are looking in to it. I will update if I learn anything else.

Update (10/20): I heard back from Amazon this weekend and they acknowledge that an update went out that caused the issue we are seeing. It sounds like they are working to determine if a fix is possible.

I'd find it really useful if I could get Alexa to give me a verbal countdown from 10 seconds to around 3 minutes or so if possible. Is there any way of doing it? Cheers

Woke up this morning and went to look at my Alexa app and saw a new device that I did not install with the name "Dotbrite". Now I am concerned that either someone has hacked my network or Amazon added this themselves. I am waiting for delivery of a new Echo Dot today. Either way its intrusive???

Why is "Dotbrite" device name showing up on Amazon Alexa app

After I've selected some soft, low-volume music to go to sleep to, and I drift off to slumberland, Alexa now helpfully yells at the top of her circuits that she is having trouble playing the music when she gets an error. It's so helpful that she wakes me up to tell me that--I would have slept right through it, if she wasn't so considerate!

Hi guys,

Spotify allows you to choose directly your echo as a device especially if you want to use multi room or not.

On Apple Music or lets say the music app from iOS I cannot choose my echo devices without making a Bluetooth connection. That’s why multi room won’t work unless I start talking to Alexa.

Am I wrong? Did I forget something?

Thanks

Hi all,

I’m tearing my hair out. I’m trying to buy an extended power cable / extension add on for my echo plus 2nd gen, so I can have it on the coffee table where I want it. I’ve ordered 2 different cables from amazon so far but both have been wrong. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

Getting rid of my google home soon cause it doesn't support my main music streaming service but amazon alexa does.

Can't decide though, Echo 2'nd Gen for $50 CAD (on sale right now) OR pre-order the echo dot with clock for $30 CAD more.

WWYD? I want other ppl's opinions cause i can't really decide myself. I really like the clock feature though because i dont have a clock in my room, but is it worth the extra $30? Anyone know if the Echo has good audio?

Go to settings>Wallpaper & Clock> and scroll down and you can select choices including Travel, Art, Nature, and Illustration.

My apologies if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if Amazon are planning to add the ability to play Bluetooth audio over the stereo sub pair?

It’s the one feature I’d love to see!

I regularly have my right speaker stop working. If I pause Spotify and restart the song the sound is back. Never happens to the left speaker. I tried switching channels, always the same speaker. Paired Gen 2 Echos.

My apologies as I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I'm not great with Reddit and can't find anything about this.

How can I get my Alexa to send an email? I believe this is possible through IFTTT. I know google changed some stuff earlier this year rendering some ifttt email functionality unusable, but I thought there was still a way to send an email to myself through Alexa with IFTTT. I recall something about adding to your to do list, and then alexa would email it to you.

Anyways, any help to show me how to set up alexa to send an email would be very appreciated. It's crazy to me that it is not one of the things Alexa can do.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Having just asked Alexa 3 times in the last hour for the score of a game , it would be great if I could set Alexa to announce key moments in a game like score changes, and then the final outcome. Is there a way to do this, or a skill that someone is aware of that would allow for this? If not , I think it would be a fantastic feature to have.

Do you think Echo Loop will allow you to play music and basically listen to it by your ear like headphones?

I was lying in bed trying to get to sleep when my Alexa randomly turned on as if it was listening to a command, the light blue section just kept spinning around.

After a while the ring dimmed to about half brightness and after another while it turned off again.

Anyone know whats going on?

I know you can view the camera from the echo show. But have a couple questions.

Does the connection to the camera time out? Can it remain active full time if the echo show is not interrupted with some other command?

Can we use some type of tap to intercom feature with the cloud cam?

Tried this recently with a Google Home Hub and Nest cam. Throughly disappointed with it as there was no intercom feature at all.

Is there a way -either directly or through a hack- to set specific times for the Guard's "automatic lighting" feature? If I'm out of town, it doesn't make sense for the lights to turn on/off throughout the house at two o'clock in the morning. That pretty much ADVERTISES that no one's home, which is the exact opposite of what the feature is supposed to do.

I'm sure the answer is "no" because I haven't found anything that states that this is a feature. The best I can find is Amazon's blurb that it uses an algorithm to figure out the lighting.
