The issues I am talking about relate to Vote Leave which was the official 2016 campaign for the UK to leave the EU. Do not confuse them with http://Leave.EU issues, a separate campaign led by Farage and Banks. (2)

Johnson, Gove and Dominic Cummings were the central characters in the Vote Leave campaign as, respectively, Campaign Committee member, Co-Convenor of the Campaign Committee and Campaign Director. (3)

Vote Leave broke the law in 2016, accepted by Vote Leave itself. Evidence published by the Electoral Commission, (EC) - includes quotations from Dominic Cummings who encouraged the breaking of electoral spending limits in the final “crucial” days of 2016 campaign.(4)

Gove has admitted he knew of the payments giving rise to the electoral offences. He has refused to disclose to me the date he found out about them or who told him.(5)pic.twitter.com/9lFyxPotGA

The DCMS Select Committee has asked for evidence held by the Electoral Commission relating to electoral offences to be disclosed to it. They have refused citing a current police investigation bein carried out by the Metropolitan Police (6)

In addition, there is a current, continuing investigation by the Information Commissioner into the possible illegal sharing of personal data in the 2016 campaign by Vote Leave and other ‘Leave” organisations. (7)

The data Investigation is based on information given to the DCMS Select Committee and includes evidence of apparent data sharing by Gove’s own 2016 Tory Leadership campaign website and Vote Leave. (8)pic.twitter.com/JotUa4gbMz

Cummings has refused to give evidence to the DCMS Select Committee to explain his role in electoral offences. He was found to be in contempt of Parliament. (9)

Boris Johnson appointed Cummings as his political adviser and has refused, as Prime Minister, to direct Dominic Cummings to give evidence to the Select Committee. He is, thereby, obstructing a Parliamentary Inquiry (10)

Gove is the Secretary of State for the Cabinet Office, the department with conduct of the Electoral Integrity Bill. He must make public his role in the Vote Leave Campaign, which has committed offences and is subject to further investigations. (11)

Gove now also denies that he has responsibility for electoral law and data protection in Government which was included in his job description when he was appointed in July. This is to avoid him breaching the Ministerial Code but is not credible. (12)pic.twitter.com/SZN22WQINp

Despite all this wrongdoing, Johnson, Gove and Cummings are running our country and are about to take us out of the EU on the basis of a referendum where offences were committed and 2 unresolved investigations are outstanding. (13)

Very good thread. I ALSO have questions about the rôle of each member if the Givernance Committee and Cummings in the review and approving of all those misleading adverts fed into the bloodstream of targeted members of the public. What was the review process of each one?
-
2/. What was the sign off process? 3/ what about when there was feedback that they were untruthful or grossly misleading? Who knew what? Who had the say in stopping or removing them?
-
4/ what data was fed back to who on the Governance Committee about the effectiveness of each ad. Surely that must have come with sight of the ads in question? 5/ Hiw can we legislate to ensure there is an evidence trial of sign offs and reviews of ALL engaged in the process?
-
6/. What powers to which bodies to enable them to make an order an to alter that ad or message is corrected or the ad to be removed from publication. Penalties.
-
Excellent points Fionna
-
Especially point 4.
-
It was point 5 that resonated with me. Even if there are no legal repercussions, a clear trail that is publicly available would mean that complicity would be provable.
-
Yes, 4, I believe, was the evaluation of effectiveness (ie proof of intention to meddle with voters’ perception and whether this was considered to have worked) which most impressed me.
