Opinion as a Kurd and as an SDF member: SDF must call for immediate withdrawal of all US troops from northern Syria asap. Without US interference SDF and SAA can at least protect Kurdish lives and prevent Kurdish cities from being ethnically cleansed.

The unwisdom of this gesture is profound. If any single factor convinced the Turks to intervene, it was the perception in Ankara that the US military identified with the PKK.

Also, to really get clarity, you'd probably need to ask a follow-up question, namely that if they're "not religious," do they either want to be religious or do they think they *should* become religious?

The big new BBC Arabic poll has gotten some misleading coverage. BBC is calling this the rise of the "non-religious" 👇🏾 The problem is the common Arabic translation of "not religious" would be مش متدين or لست متدين which doesn't have quite the same implication as "not religious"

Keep in mind most of best counter- operatives in MERV (E ) are drawn from ranks of the (whether or Arabs). This plan to stay in the MERV will most likely depend on some type of residual YPG force there to work. Ilham is in for an interesting discussion...

If US troops are limited to Deir ez-Zor, US may focus on working with Arab portions of the SDF, as wrote, which some consider less effective than YPG. CENTCOM believes that ISIS could exploit tensions in DeZ after protests erupted in April over SDF mgmt of oil
