The situation in Syria took a new turn today, and the upcoming mess is even more imminent. My new article on how precisely the Turkish incursion will help revive ISIS and unravel things beyond ISIS and its sleeper cells. Please read and share:

  2. I meant that it goes without saying, it’s exactly like saying Turkey invaded from the north not the south.

Syrian rebels are somehow Syrian rebels.

Trump’s betrayal of the Kurds hardly signals a turning point in US foreign policy, let alone the “world order”: The US betrayed the Sahwa in Iraq, March 14 in Lebanon, its Palestinian allies, and so on. The fact is that it never stands by non-state proxies for very long

When Kurdish families turned up at main US base in Syria seeking sanctuary from Turkish invasion, soldiers turned them away. Inside Trump administration’s attempts to avoid its Fall of Saigon moment in Syria. ⁦⁩ ⁦

  9. On the Turkish-backed rebel group recently seen executing two SDF fighters on the side of the road. Turkey is apparently trying to distance itself from it, confiscating stuff it stole from civilians & removing dozens of its fighters. Good if Turkey has such plans, & the leverage

President Trump has recently been mixing up at least 4 events over different countries & time periods, narrating them as one: •The 4-decade PKK-Turkey war •Turkey’s war against the YPG in Syria •Shia forces seizing Kirkuk in 2017 in Iraq •War on ISIS

The United States has squandered its leverage in Syria. Still, it has major interests there and should take immediate steps to responsibly mitigate the fallout. My attempt to be constructive in the madness:

Fascinating piece about "ISIS matchmaker" who escaped a detention facility and was caught by the Turkish-backed rebels in northern Syria. She wants to be given passage to Turkey to return to her country the UK, in an interview with .

Smart note — Turkey will be happy to hand over areas to Russia, esp. since the US now committed to the removal of the Kurdish forces entirely from the 20-mile deep north. One more reason why the Pence-Erdogan agreement is bad for the US-abandoned SDF.

The US: Turkey is going in, we won’t stand in the way Turkey: Ok, here we go The US: how dare you! We’ll hit with strong sanctions Turkey: Ok, we can stop if the Kurds leave the border areas The US: we support Turkish incursion 20 miles inside Syria

An English copy of the Pence-Erdogan joint statement about a ceasefire in northern Syria. Items 6, 9-12 are the essential ones. For the future, this statement confirms American support for Turkish operations inside Syria against “terrorists.”

Now that makes sense: The SDF's "General Mazloum said that they accept the ceasefire which is for the active war zone Serêkanîyê (Ras al-Ain) & Girêsipî (Tal Abyad) and US is part if this. They do not accept withdrawal"

Also, not accepting the "ceasefire" means that Turkey would resume its campaign. This is the worst deal imaginable for him, but he has few choices unfortunately. The deal is a no-brainer for the Kurds.
