    A pretty good summation of how we got here.

    How did Bashar Assad drown a country in blood and win a war? Russia and Iran helped him for sure, but Obama, Netanyahu and Erodgan stood back and let him as well. Trump was but a footnote to this list of shame. My analysis

    Think about it folks. The US military handed a base to the Russians so Turkey, a NATO ally, couldn’t take it first. You can oppose Turkish operations and still not lose sight of the strategic consequence of this.

    Per my, ahem, long thread earlier on how it was the US who rebranded the as the . Turkey never bought it, clearly, with devastating results. Now YPG partnering with Assad, the guy who killed 500k+ and used sarin against his people.

    Gen. Thomas, former Cmdr of SOCOM, describes how the US rebranded the Syrian PKK, turning it into the SDF. But this “cleverness” did not fool the Turks; it enraged them. We Americans are better at propagandizing ourselves than at propagandizing others.

    I would add. Twitter is the worst when it comes to spreading panic. It would be crazy for the US to completely leave Syria. I'd wait a bit to see because it might be that the US will redeploy south of the Turkish zone, but still remain in Syria, as I sure hope they do.

    No. how can you say this? Chemical attacks ring a bell? It was ok when Assad was doing the slaughtering? Come on, Tommy. We shld all be able to admit mistakes + be critical of Trump at the same time. We need to understand both shortcomings to realize how we got here

    Deciding whether or not to go to war with Syria was a tough call. Certainly there are fair criticisms of Obama’s policy choices. But there’s no excuse or rationale for letting Erdogan slaughter the Kurds. This one is easy. That’s not a partisan point.
