* TaikoCatsDooooN

TaikoCatsDooooN is a simulator being programmed mainly by miyaneko1467, a Japanese developer, while also receiving help from other members in their Discord. It comes with a skin that looks similar to the Arcade version. This simulator is a fork of an older version of TJAPlayer3, so it has some old, unfixed memory leak issues. The only reason to use this over TJAPlayer3 is for the visual improvements it has over its fork.

>Where can I get skins for TaikoCatsDooooN?

While there are currently no fan-made skins released for TaikoCatsDooooN, the only skin you have is the one that it comes with, which is the Arcade Style one.

To use the official Taiko no Tatsujin font, download and install it: https://mega.nz/#!oJgnUYiJ!pkrwfryzX2kq8D5umjY_nuE9v7ExKSdSwv_1iAqQck0 and then, in your Config.ini, change

>Where can I obtain songs?

If you come from osu! or similar, obtaining songs (hereafter charts) is pretty difficult. One way to look for charts is:

  1. Get your song name (I'm going to use Lachryma for this example)

  2. Add 太鼓さん次郎 next to it (so Lachryma 太鼓さん次郎)

  3. Look this up on YouTube. If your song is charted by someone, you'll obtain a list of videos of people showcasing their charts. They will usually also provide a download link for the chart in the video description. Most, if not all charters use a hosting site called uploader.jp, so keep an eye out for those links.

Alternatively, I'll provide Nyannurs' song library, weighted at 869Mb: https://mega.nz/#!dZhl3YjQ!ClngmxZ5tN_1FqB7bW93RzEQ0WuV4SjPLOZ9B1bZ0x0

Another .tja megapack, including most (if not all) AC songs: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1J7y6aR1cqK5Hl8WcE5NJG7bkAD6XYYSE&export=download

Here are some links to the Taikojiro wiki. There are many song packs linked, but beware, some songs might or might not work on TaikoCatsDooooN due to how old some charts are.

Community chart packs: https://wikiwiki.jp/jiro/%E5%AE%8C%E6%88%90%E5%93%81

Specific chart packs: https://wikiwiki.jp/jiromasq/%E5%A4%AA%E9%BC%93%E6%AC%A1%E9%83%8E%E4%BB%AE%E8%A3%85%E8%88%9E%E8%B8%8F%E4%BC%9A/DL

To load up charts, just place the charts in a folder called "Songs" in the root folder of your TaikoCatsDooooN installation.

As for difficulty selection, this is done with the up or down arrow on your keyboard. Some charts do not offer further than Oni difficulty, but there are a handful of charts with a full spread of difficulty in my song pack.

>Sound latency options

TaikoCatsDooooN has WASAPI turned on by default. However, the default buffer size is rather large, so go to Settings (second option in the main menu) -> System -> WASAPIBufSize and change the value. The value you change it to is dependant on your sound card I believe, and the optimal value is best found by trial and error. Lowering the value means less latency, and raising the value will have the opposite effect. Lower the value by pieces and test out the audio in a random song. Listen for any glitches or stutters. Go as low as possible without glitches or stutters.

Another sound option is ASIO. You will need a soundcard that natively supports ASIO or download the ASIO4ALL driver, but this is not really recommended, as the latency difference between a natively-supporting ASIO soundcard and the ASIO4ALL driver is very noticeable. Once you have it installed, open up TaikoCatsDooooN and select ASIO.

Last but not least we have DirectSound. This one has noticeable sound latency, but allows other audio to run in the background. ASIO and WASAPI do not provide shared audio. For example, if you have TaikoCatsDooooN running on ASIO or WASAPI and you try to play a YouTube video, it won't work. Streaming the game is also only possible on DirectSound for the same reason: DirectSound provides shared audio.

This is mostly preference, and depends on how you plan to use the software. Pick the setting that best suits your usage, and enjoy.

>Hotkeys and what they do

F2: Quick config menu. Allows you to modify the song speed, scroll speed and also allows you to toggle modifiers such as randomizer or invisible notes, or shin-uchi mode.

F3: Toggles autoplay.

F5: Toggles super hard mode.

F6: Switches between BMScroll and HSScroll.

F10: Takes a screenshot.

>Anything else I should know?

  • The default keybinds are DF JK for KDDK. Keybinding configuration is done inside the game, and the general settings are accessed by hitting enter on the second option on the main menu. Key config is accessed through: Settings -> Drums -> Key Config.
  • If you download any song and drop it in a folder, a simple close and open of TaikoCatsDooooN will refresh the song list.
  • If you have any further questions you're welcome to join the Taiko Discord (link is located in the sidebar of this subreddit) and ask in the #simulation channel, or make a post on the subreddit.
