>>926812You know, I've been on both sides of the fence.
On one hand, it seems that short term self-interest is favored, even from an evolution point of view, and that it's simply in human nature to be selfish and aggressive. The caveman who bashes heads in with a rock will win over the caveman who tries the peaceful approach.
This idea makes you rather pessimistic.
But then, look at the Christian countries.
Look at how fucking cruel "we" were.
The idea of peaceful Christians and Christian countries was probably just as unlikely and unrealistically utopic during the crucades and the inquisitions, as it is to picture the same today looking at Islam and Muslim countries.
Yet, here we are today. Not blowing ourselves up. Not killing people for not believing in our skyman.
So it is possible to get out of that seemingly hopeless situation.
It took centuries though, and education played a trivial role.
I'm too pessimistic to believe that I will see 'peace in the middle east' or the disappearance of religious terrorism in my time. But it is possible.
Education and time seems the only sustainable solution, though just nuking a few strategic locations is so fucking tempting
