She should have followed an isolationist policy and ended globalism, or at least curtailed it so that British industry could flourish.
Instead she shut down British industry, and had us join the EU, forcing us to be dependent upon those of other nations for a whole host of things.
That's why people hate her, and that's how she failed as a leader. I believe only three things a necessary for a leader- to protect their lands from potential invaders, to provide opportunities so that the people of their lands can be sustained and to keep order within their lands.
She protected our lands and interests well, she struggled with maintaining order but had some degree of success, and she completely failed in regards to keeping Britain as a self-sustaining nation, forcing it to become dependent on the rest of the world because that way is 'cheaper'. Admittedly this is better than most modern politicians who can neither keep order nor protect us from foreigners, and who have done nothing to rebuild our industry, but she is hardly the 'great' that many people make out, though certainly not the evil witch that others believe her to be.

I would have liked it if she could have kept the rest of our industries going, but how can you when unions are demanding a two person machine has to be manned by five people paid a wage they don't deserve.
The poll tax was fairer than what we have now, the reason people didn't like it (apart from poor people not liking actually paying for services) was that councils chose their own rate, so labour councils set it really high to pay for all the welfare they handed out.
She made it so people could buy their council houses, so that they weren't dependant on the state.
Lefties main complaint seems to be that "she wanted to abolish the NHS" well she probably did, but she didn't so that is a moot point.
