  2. Yes but what else can they do? If the YPG doesn’t have US backing, it will have to stand down in face of Turkey’s military might. Assad, who wants to use the promise of folding the YPG under his control to lure Ankara for a hand shake with his regime, won’t fight for them either

  17. Unclear from Pence's press conference how many fighters are considered YPG vs. SDF who would need to withdraw. The SDF has no reason to trust that Turkey won't violate this deal (like it violated the "security mechanism" deal) & attack again if they withdraw all fighters.
