ABOUT THE ASIA SMART CITY CONFERENCE (ASCC)
We regard “Smart City Development” as sustainable city development. It should raise the quality of life of citizens by promoting well-balanced sustainable development and making use of diverse and innovative technologies created by public and private sector partnerships.
Many discussions about Smart Cities have taken place on the international scene. Now is the time to move forward and take concrete actions based on those discussions.
The Asia Smart City Conference (ASCC) is an international conference that brings together representatives from cities in Asia, international organizations, academic institutions, and private companies, aiming at establishing a knowledge hub for Smart Cities with the support of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank Institute. At this conference, city leaders will share their vision for growth as well as their current challenges and needs; private companies and academic institutions will propose innovative solutions; international organizations will offer programs to support efforts by cities and private companies; and various best practices from around the world will be shared. In addition, Yokohama city will introduce environmental technologies developed by private companies in Yokohama to cities in emerging economies.
UNDER THE CONCEPT OF ASIA SMART CITY WEEK (ASCW)
This year we are planning a collaborative “Asia Smart City Week” (ASCW) that will include the ASEAN Smart City Network (ASCN) High Level Meeting and the launch meeting of the Global Smart Cities Alliance on Technology Governance (GSCA).
ABOUT THE Y‐PORT PROJECT
In emerging countries in Asia and other regions, urban development issues have occurred such as population increase and disorderly expansion of urban areas brought about by rapid urbanization, as well as deterioration of the living and natural environment associated with the underdevelopment of infrastructure and housing. The Y‐PORT Project aims to deal with these issues and strengthen partnerships for the promotion of international technical cooperation by taking advantage of know-how on urban development that Yokohama has so far cultivated and environmental technologies developed by private companies in Yokohama. In doing so, the project has been aiming to raise the brand value of Yokohama, a cosmopolitan city, and to promote overseas expansion of private companies in the city since January 2011.
As a part of Y‐PORT project, the ASCC is held to discuss sustainable urban development, which aims at both economic growth and sustainable urban environment, bringing together stakeholders from cities in Asia, international organizations, academic institutions, and private companies.

THE ASIA SMART CITY WEEK (ASCW)
Asia Smart City Week (ASCW) will take place on October 8-11 2019 and consists of three main events: the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) High Level Meeting, the 8th Asia Smart City Conference(ASCC) and the Launch Meeting of the Global Smart Cities Alliance on Technology Governance(GSCA). The ASEAN Smart Cities Network High Level Meeting (ASCN) (October 8-9, 11)
The ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) is a collaborative platform where cities from ten ASEAN Member States (AMS) work towards the common goal of smart and sustainable urban development. This meeting hosted by MLIT aims to realize smart cities in 26 ASCN pilot cities based on ASEAN-Japan cooperation by sharing the needs of ASCN pilot cities and Japan’s know-how and technology, and providing the opportunity of matching between private and public sectors of ASEAN and Japan.
The Launch Meeting of the Global Smart Cities Alliance on Technology Governance (GSCA) (October 9)
The Global Smart City Alliance (GSCA) will proudly form on October 9th. This efforts adopted by the G20 Ministerial Statement on Trade and Digital Economy in Tsukuba. This alliance unites municipal, regional and national governments, private sector partners and city residents around a shared set of core guiding principles for the implementation of smart city technologies.
