Is ' the reason for that' correct? I am not sure if I have to add ' for that' in the following sentence, but I often see the reason for that or the reason for this. What do you think?

He did not want to go to the party. The reason for that ( or the reason?) was he was afriad of bumping into his ex-girlfirend at the party.

    Your sentence would make sense to me without "for that", Amby. I'd probably use "for that" if I was writing the sentence unless I was really in a hurry.
