Whoever thinks the conflicts are over when leaders negotiate final deals in Geneva or Astana are mistaken. Broken people in broken systems will not just go back to normal with one click.

Any average person in the conflict areas in Middle East has lived what others in the rest of the world only seen in movies. The wars and devastation have not only given birth to false narratives but to entire generations of messed up humans.

If you are a 10 year old in Middle East you have either personally witnessed or heard things that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Countries may recover but people won’t. The psychological effect of these tragedies will mess up generations to come.

Nation states in the MENA are all failures in one way or another. But even if they were relatively successful, they would still be the greatest blocker to the potential MENA has. This division is killing us and our potentials.

It took Europeans hundreds of years of rivalries and two world wars to understand this. We had the kind of diverse unity EU has hundreds of years ago. We lost it in the Sykes-Picot era. We don’t need to go back. We just need to bring back the spirit and move forward.

When old discourses, old systems and old orders fail, only a wise and steady movment towards a new order can be the solution. The Sikes-Picot order has failed to bring stability to Middle East. Going back to pre-Arab Spring order won’t solve nothing.

Talking about Sykes-Picot is boring. But the talk is not only about an agreement between 2 Wesyern diplomats. We are talking about an order. It is that order which has shaped many narratives, identities and given birth to many tragedies. And that order has to be changed.

PYD or whatever fancy name they have for their administration in Syria didn’t mention ‘Kurdistan’, ‘Kurd’ or ‘Kurdish’ once in their surrender declaration! They basically say we fought for Syrian sovereignty! They should own their defeat and stop telling Kurds how great it was.
