#Kurds#podcast | This is a much needed & enlightening discussion. Lacking significant global leader figures many SA Muslims hv romantised Erdogan (as an Ertuğrul placeholder) & accepted black propaganda against the Kurdish ppl.https://twitter.com/dananawzar/status/1183828637797277700 …Thanks. Trump foreign policy will be known in the future as the Asshole Doctrine.

This is a diplomatic victory for SDF but more importantly a personal victory for General Mazlum Kobani. His mention of Kobani’s symbolicity was an excellent read of Trump’s psyche which loves big stories and symbols. I’d like to read full transcripts of the calls tonighthttps://twitter.com/RiegerReport/status/1183869569091489792 …

Hundreds of people died, thousands displaced, regional power dynamics shifted because the president's a moron who doesn't prepare for phone calls.

If you start your war after a phone call, you might need to stop it after a phone call too. Turkey still has options to achieve with peace what it can never achieve with war. Restart the peace process. I am sure PKK has now understood Ocalan’s wisdodm. In peace wins everyone.

My first ever radio interview in English. I talked to South Africa-based Radio Islam’s
@ebrahim_moosa about Kurds and Islam in the light of the current events. I normally prefer writing but the name South Africa lured me. One of the secrets of Iranian success which saved it much headache and unnecessary conflict is embracing ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity. While Turkey wasted 70 years fighting Kurdish language. And most Turks still act wierdly allergic to words like Kurdistan.https://twitter.com/MidEastWitness/status/1183540343381381122 …

Turkish opposition is the only opposition which applauds ethnic cleansing but causes mayhem over trees Syrian opposition is the only armed rebellion that fights everyone but the person they rebelled against Kurdish PKK are the only movement who surrender and call it victory

#Turks &#Kurds should finally get the century-old lesson: There is no “military solution.” The solution is to liberalize Turkey, make it more respectful to its citizens, while curbing PKK's totalitarian ambitions. Whoever thinks the conflicts are over when leaders negotiate final deals in Geneva or Astana are mistaken. Broken people in broken systems will not just go back to normal with one click.

Any average person in the conflict areas in Middle East has lived what others in the rest of the world only seen in movies. The wars and devastation have not only given birth to false narratives but to entire generations of messed up humans.

If you are a 10 year old in Middle East you have either personally witnessed or heard things that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Countries may recover but people won’t. The psychological effect of these tragedies will mess up generations to come.

Nation states in the MENA are all failures in one way or another. But even if they were relatively successful, they would still be the greatest blocker to the potential MENA has. This division is killing us and our potentials.

It took Europeans hundreds of years of rivalries and two world wars to understand this. We had the kind of diverse unity EU has hundreds of years ago. We lost it in the Sykes-Picot era. We don’t need to go back. We just need to bring back the spirit and move forward.

When old discourses, old systems and old orders fail, only a wise and steady movment towards a new order can be the solution. The Sikes-Picot order has failed to bring stability to Middle East. Going back to pre-Arab Spring order won’t solve nothing.

Talking about Sykes-Picot is boring. But the talk is not only about an agreement between 2 Wesyern diplomats. We are talking about an order. It is that order which has shaped many narratives, identities and given birth to many tragedies. And that order has to be changed.

PYD or whatever fancy name they have for their administration in Syria didn’t mention ‘Kurdistan’, ‘Kurd’ or ‘Kurdish’ once in their surrender declaration! They basically say we fought for Syrian sovereignty! They should own their defeat and stop telling Kurds how great it was.
