    THREAD on the Turkish incursion into Northern Syria. 1. Before I start, read the thread below, where has outlined the situation very nicely. I will simply use it as the foundation of my explanation of Russia’s position.

    Turkish attack against Syrian Kurds has been agreed with & . It is a limited attack with limited objective. It will create a zone (not a buffer zone) for Syrian refugees to be eventually re-located from and when the time comes to eliminate Jihadists.

    Most honest tweet from a US politician you'll find. ISIS is just a group of mercenaries, like Al Qaeda, and it just so happens that Turkey was their backbone, until Russia smashed it. ISIS is not just some roaming bunch of barbaric settlers. Israelis, on the other hand, are.

    Turkey’s actions will only benefit ISIS, Iran, and Russia, and creates a nightmare for Israel. Turkey is NOT acting as a good NATO ally.

    Well, the obvious suggestion when it comes to “endless wars” is Israeli aggression. But of course, for a US president it is taboo to talk about this. So Trump uses the Turk/Kurd card as a way of approaching the problem from a different, safer for him angle.

    .....The Kurds and Turkey have been fighting for many years. Turkey considers the PKK the worst terrorists of all. Others may want to come in and fight for one side or the other. Let them! We are monitoring the situation closely. Endless Wars!

    A important point! Hence why I keep saying there is no “Turkish invasion”. Turkey’s presence is within international law, unlike the US’.

    What we are seeing in northeast Syria is the implementation of the Turkish-Syrian 1998 Adana agreement under Russian, US supervision ... Soon the agreement will be also implemented in Idlib, de facto ending the war.

    23. The Rojava Kurds thought they had a good plan and that spitting on Damascus would happen without consequences. WRONG. It’s time to pay the bill now. Assad accepts any of the Eurasian currencies. Sadly the Kurds only seem to have useless dollars, shekels, and riyals. End.

    21. All in all, the collective West is doing absolutely nothing to stop the Turkish incursion besides lip service so that the “ally” Kurds aren’t too offended. Russia never deceived the Kurds - the door for talks was always open, Damascus didn’t, and Tehran didn’t.

    20. At the same time, Turkey holds collateral against Moscow and Beijing, owing to the pragmatic nature of relations. Ankara makes PR statements about “Uighurs internment camps” and gives superficial support to Ukrainian terrorists like the Mejlis. This will change over time.
