Damascus proposed these arrangements 18 months ago as a first step of a multiple-phase plan: 1- Control borders & reconnect with governing institutions 2- Oil fields & military bases are returned 3- SDF will take part in governing & military + constitutional rights

It is hard to see how things are over considering how SAA reinforcements look like. Without real military deployment (tanks, armors, ammunition, ATGMs, machine guns) SAA is still not in control of anything even if they’re present

There was a better way: gradual transition in NE Syria ensuring stability, protection of civilians, & containment of ISIS threat. It required more patience from Turkey. It required more engagement by US & EU to address Turkey's border security concerns. Instead we have war.

Results of , election (w sweeping & very large majority) of ,a shy & discreet academic/constitutional lawyer. 2 main (& positive so far!) take-aways: •Populism as political recepy (still) not an unavoidable fate. •Tunisia keeps its transition promises.

Dear SDF: Putting civilians on a military convoy heading to a frontline is an active use of “Human Shield” not a “Protest”. Spare civilians your useless wars.

Amazing the ‘shock’ on Twitter.. as if we did not know US was going to eventually pull out.. Turkey will never allow a PKK dominated NE Syria entity all across its borders.. And as if PKK/PYD/YPG leaders and fighters did not know this and were not already engaging Assad, Russia..

It’s getting exhausting watching Obama aides that are suddenly *now* calling for an American President to do something about the murder of innocent women and children in Syria.

I removed a post I recently made with a child that seemed to be deceased in her mothers arms. However, this longer clip shows the child is alive, although clearly in need of medical assistance. A lesson to us all to quadruple check sources to make sure we don't spread fakes.

The narratives about 's decision to allow Turkey to invade Syria have many serious flaws. A false dichotomy between bad guys & good guys. Here is the full picture of what is going on. I say this not just as an analyst but also as someone from that area.

Serious question to editors and journalists, is circulating a video like this ethical? I’ve seen pictures and videos taken in these IDPs camps published and spread without ensuring these are actually ISIS members, not to speak about the fact they include children.

The US policy to support to YPG in 2014-2015 emboldened PKK to abandon the peace process, push AKP towards the ultra-right nationalists, and get us where we are today.

This point is very critical in understanding the conflict today. Same countries condemning Turkey today were implicit in supporting much worse oppressive policies towards the Kurds before AKP in the 1990s and before.

Very good analysis of the Turkish policies today and the Western reaction to it

There is no excuse for universities to send students to authoritarian states. Not only are students ill prepared but there is no policy to ensure they are protected from violations to their human rights

Why did European peoples kill each other for centuries? Why did Far Eastern people kill each other for centuries? Why do the people of the Indian subcontinent fight each other toll today? This is the story of humanity, and its quest for an egalitarian pluralism
