"In short, simply by pressuring the PYD (Kurdish Democratic Union Party) into a power-sharing agreement with the KNC (Kurdish National Council) ... the US could have guaranteed the stability of northern Syria" — writes

Rojava is Turkey’s neighbour; US would have left today or tomorrow, so they should have made some serious concessions acceptable to Turkey; it is painful but living in this neighbourhood is tough.

I find KNC lazy and mostly dumb, but they already had an agreement with PYD and this was the only viable way to somehow contain PYD which would have made it extremely difficult for TR to justify attacking Rojava; I cannot find of any other sustainable scenario.

- US could’ve revived power-sharing agreement between PYD-KNC (2012-13); - Positive for peace process - This would’ve made it difficult for TR to justify attacking Rojava - Kurds could’ve used non-Kurdish territory as negotiating card to guarantee autonomy https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/prevented-turkey-military-action-syria-191012104551443.html …https://twitter.com/lindseyhilsum/status/1183443972317945856 …

The situation is so messy and chaotic, nobody for a fact knows what is going on, but if Erdogan - Putin have an agreement, this Assad deployment might be as ineffective as in Afrin. Let’s see.https://twitter.com/ragipsoylu/status/1183430291685281795 …

And here is UN commission which says they have found no evidence that SDF or YPG ever targeted Arab communities on the basis of ethnicity nor systematically changing demography of the region under their control, via

Confirmed with two knowledgeable US officials: the US still isn’t withdrawing from Syria, no matter the rhetoric, and despite
@EsperDoD’s confusing interview today. The 1000 US forces in Syria are withdrawing further away from the advancing Turks.Show this threadThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo - Abdulla Hawez Retweeted
I can confirm that the convey hit in Ras AlAin by Turkey contains journalists. I still don't know their identity though.

Beyond the simplistic suggestions that US should have just merely stayed in Northern Syria: here are my no-hype and realistic suggestions how US could have prevented Turkey’s military action. Hint:

Meanwhile Turkey ACTUALLY did demographically re-engineered Afrin from an undisputedly majority Kurd, to a majority Arab town (most of the Arabs came from Ghuta). Nobody is even taking about it, as if it is all okay:https://mobile.twitter.com/abdullahawez/status/1118998605405335554 …

The Tal Abyad civilian council which was formed by SDF has 10 Arab members out of 15. The rest are 3 Kurds, 1 Turkmen and 1 Armenian. Anyone who has visited the town can easily see it is still majority Arab, how is it ethnically cleansed when majority are still Arab?

This is why I don’t take western media seriously anymore. They invite nonsensers like this guy just because he works in some fancy think tank - complete nonsense. Tal Abyad is majority Arab to this moment, around 60-70%. Ras al Ayn has always been a mixed town and still is.https://twitter.com/SonerCagaptay/status/1183368861636321281 …

Hassan is a great Syria analyst but doesn’t fully understand the concerns of the Kurdish side; this ‘very limited’ operation somehow includes almost all Kurdish areas, all Syrian Kurdistan.https://twitter.com/hxhassan/status/1183016529165737985 …
