Mister Global Contestants Dress In Their National Costumes And Look Like Video Game Bosses
Recently, Mister Global, a male beauty pageant took place in Thailand. The event was founded in 2014 and since its first edition over 60 countries have sent their representatives to compete for the Mister Global Title. This year, 38 candidates decided to test their strengths in the pageant. The final was held in Bangkok on September 26 with the “Inspiring Gentleman” theme. However, this event is not merely a beauty contest, even though one of the main requirements of contestants is to be 'good looking' as the spokesperson of the pageant, Kitti Kamjunsa, told Bored Panda. "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness, and we have been promoting this cause ever since we started in 2014. This year, we added a new motto "Inspiring Gentleman" because we believe that the contestants and titleholders should motivate and inspire people. During this year's pageant, we did a fundraising event to support an organization that takes care of elephants in Thailand and it was successful, " Kamjunsa said. When asked what makes Mister Global different from other pageants the spokesperson explained: "Basically every pageant system is identical but what makes Mister Global different from the others is that we are part of the Top 5 Grand Slam Male Pageants. We have good quality contestants and great support from our national directors from around the world. We have also garnered much support from our many fans that follow us on our website and official page. Most importantly, we are true on our advocacy on Environmental Awareness and charity cause."
The pageant was won by Korea‘s Jong Woo Kim, who is a 23-year-old police administration student and model. Jong Woo Kim is set to become an inspirational role model for young men all around the world. He will also become a Global Goodwill Ambassador and participate in environmental and charitable projects.
Same as every year, the most attention goes to pageant's national outfits showcase. After all, the representatives get the chance to demonstrate their countries heritage. "For us, we are really surprised that it went viral around the world and we welcome many positive comments. However, this segment is nothing new in any pageant system as it has always been a part of it. The winning costume is not about the size or design but the story and culture behind it," Kamjunsa said. The national costume contest was won by Myanmar, it's safe to say that most of the contestants made their homelands' proud by rocking well crafted and impressive costumes. Right - for those have who their knickers in a twist saying that it's wrong to have a Boer dressed as a Zulu... he's not. I can see at least seven different cultures represented by what that guy is wearing. It's actually a pretty smart way to incorporate just about everyone who lives in South Africa in one image.
Apparently, I'm now obsessed with headpieces. Damn, there are all delight to look at!
His costume looks very functional. It's not as extravagant as the others, but looks like something he'll get a lot of use from. It's like I'm looking in a book about his country and see this pic.
I would like to see the rest of the weapon, it looks very substantial and impressive,
What does he back look like? His dress looks very functional. Has a farmer ring to it.
Nice Lion costume. I like that they kept the Lion Head simple-ish and not overly flashy/inlaid with decorative horns/jewels/eyelashes so as not to overshadow the human.
For some reason I just thought of Eddie Murphy’s outfit in “Coming to America”
This is Manchurian dress as opposed to Chinese dress - a Chinese Changshan would only have two splits, a Mandarin collar, and no hanging seal from the belt.
Honestly, as a Puerto Rican. I think they did macrame but not with rope like that, and I also feel they got lazy with this. If this costume was made for like a contest. Lord forgive me, but its fucking terrible. And im kinda annoyed
Why does it look like they just took it out the suitcase and put it on? Geez they should carry a travel steamer.
All these customs are gorgeous and then you have mister Cuba... Poor poor mister Cuba
While superman may be "native" to USA (its "birth" country) it is not "native" in the same way that all the other costumes are. I feel that using an indian (as in native american) would've been a much better choice.
I'm Polish and I felt disappointed with our contestant's costume... And then I saw USA. I'm better now
I'm from Malaysia and i feel the same way too ! Thanks USA!
What's wrong with the Malaysian costume?
Glad to be of service.
I hate you guys ughhhhh I’ll just claim my Mexican side instead
As an American, that was awful to see. Lmao!
I'm from the U.S and I'm highly embarrassed. Not surprised........but definitely embarrassed.
Are we just going to ignore Cuba?
SO DISAPPOINTING. but it’s kinda hard because our native culture is beautiful but the contestants who represent us are not Native American. It’s difficult to come up with a costume for a country with soooo many countries represented in the faces of its people.
Fair point.
Good one
So they all went for their countries traditional clothes and the guy for the USA is "I'm going as Superman"? ... Then the Swiss guy didn't even try and just wrapped the flag around him.
Last year's winner was USA - the traditional clothing is just one round in an old fashioned beauty contest. Will someone please explain to me why beauty pageants still exist? Aren't we supposed to be getting better about judging people on looks? Mr-Global-...407a9e.jpg
Because it's our turn to perve on blokes ;)
The custom couldn't be worst but it's awful, too.
Alex, that's because there are a ton of us here in the U.S. Oh, and a lot of times the border crossed us, so there's that, LOL. Like, my native Texas was originally a part of Mexico.
But look! He's soo pretty!
He looks more Mexican than Frida Kahlo and I
As a native swiss, I'm disappointed in our participation in this pageant. But superman? Bet americans would be mad at him
I hope it's disappointed that your country even took part. What on earth is the point in this - in any beauty contest? It's archaic.
Lucas, "The aim of Mister Global is to promote environmental awareness" :B
NO. Every man wants to be a superhero. Hence the popularity of the franchises. The world over.
oh trust me. i am.
Nah, pretty sure they are all US citizens from the same model agency wrapped in some custom the studio find in the local halloween store.
Kind of the awsome thing about the US.... You are correct - they very well could all be US citizens.
I don’t think Switzerland has a national outfit so they had to be creative.
ofc we have tf you think
Re: Mr Switzerland- It _is_ hard to portray neutrality, especially when you look like a WWE wrestler.
am I the only one bothered by how much most of these suits need ironing? like they didn't even try
YES!! Thank you, I thought that I was the only one who noticed the need for ironing! Could you imagine Miss USA competing in a wrinkled dress??
They should also iron their stomach. What's with those bumps?
HAHAHAHA
Right? Not one of their hotel rooms had an iron?
YES!!! I was about to say that too!! Argh... It takes all the splendor out of the costumes!
clothes? what clothes?
That's exactly what I wanted to say xD
