That was quick...This isn’t a game. Trump’s impulsive decisions have serious consequences. And abandoning our allies like this makes it harder to retain and recruit alliances going forward.

  3. Regarding Syria and Turkey, there is some disinformation out there (including from the POTUS himself), so here is some background on what is admittedly a complex matter with no easy or magic formulas:

We owed the Syrian Defense Forces much much better than a no-notice stand-by-and-watch as it gets pummeled by and — less than a few days after we (again) reassured them that dismantling there defenses would not hurt them b/c we are here.

It has begun. Turkey has started air and artillery strikes on near the border gate connecting Syria with Iraq. The air space was supposed to remain closed to Turkish jets.

  16. The U.S. convinced the Kurds to destroy ISIS for us, causing massive Kurd casualties. Then we conned the Kurds into dismantling their defenses, promising to protect them. Now Trump invites the Turks into Syria, green lighting them to wipe out the Kurds. Positively sinister.

1/ Kurdish partners in Syria fought alongside the U.S. courageously and provided indispensable ground combat power to take on the ISIS “caliphate.” President Trump's decision breaks faith with them in a way that is morally wrong and strategically short-sighted.

  20. Turkey spends the past half decade giving the U.S. the middle finger, effectively ditching NATO for Russia and screwing up the F-35 program, and Trump’s response is to withdraw from Syria in order to enable Turkey to have a wide open lane to overrun our Kurdish allies. Lovely.
