I don’t know all the details regarding President Trump’s decision in northern Syria. In process of setting up phone call with Secretary Pompeo. If press reports are accurate this is a disaster in the making.

  4. "The Kurds fought with us, but were paid massive amounts of money and equipment to do so." Trump really reduces everything to money, projecting his lack of principles and morality onto others.

  5. There are deeply decent people inside the DoD & State working on Syria who tried very hard to prevent the Turkish invasion. The decision to abandon the Kurds was made by Trump and he personally should be held responsible for all the reprucussion stemming from it.

was warned he will get no support for a invasion of N/E from the US-led Coalition. If keeps the air space over the Zone closed to 's warplanes, Turkey faces a much tougher road, unlike what it faced in . Will Trump keep it closed?

No mention of abandoning their partners? The thousands of people living there? This is a whole new level of U.S. failure.

This is extremely bad. It will cause mass displacement, vast land expropriation, civilian casualties, demographic change, insecurity, leave ISIS prisons vulnerable, and erode any chance of convincing Assad and Russia to change course on doing those same things elsewhere.

ISIS prisoners are not in Tel Abyad or Ras al Ein, they are in Qamishli,Ein Essa,Rouj, al Houl & in local detention centres in DZ. If the U.S. is planning on handing Turkey the responsibility of ISIS fighters it means handing them the area from Tel Abyad down to Deir al-Zour.

My understanding from speaking to local sources in northern Syria is that this decision was made by Trump without advance warning to Kurds or even US coalition forces on the ground. They found out the way the rest of us found out 1/

Journalists/analysts asking what happens to al-Hol & its lot of foreigners? But who is asking what happens to residents of Raqqa, Qamishli, Deir al-Zor governorate, Hasake, Tal Abyad, Amuda, Kobani...is there a plan for them?

A very fair question from the head of the press office in SDF. Are US deals today as lasting as a Trump tweet?

“We're gonna get out of the way,” one U.S. official tells the Washington Post, while another says there's still no clarity on the scope of any upcoming Turkish operation.

Despite the deal and following destruction of fortifications, US forces did not fulfill their responsibilities and began withdrawing from border, leaving the area to turn into a war zone. But SDF is determined to defend NE Syria at all costs.

As always in , civilians indangered by whims of the powerful. Forced displacement; unlawful attacks; arbitrary arrests and property violations are key concerns if this happens. Add in lingering questions on the fate of suspects in NE Syria = recipe for disaster.
