    I know history began with US involvement in NE Syria.. But pre-history.. 1998.. Turkey was threatening and about to invade North Syria for the same reason what Assad Sr was allowing PKK to operate from there..

    We aligned under Obama not with “the Kurds,” but with the PKK, the sworn enemy of the Turkish Republic, our ally. We were sowing the seeds of a Turkish-PKK war with that policy. We were also driving Turkey toward Russia.

    How does this end? The Kurds, whatever their political panjandrums, have been reliable allies. I note we come to the 100th anniversary of the Sevres treaty next year, in which the Kurds were promised a plebiscite.

    Remember when the media reports that cunningly and jokingly cited US officials saying “yea we knew it was ridiculous when we said to Turks we’ll get weapons back from YPG”.. Today was the ipso facto outcome of day 1 of US engagement with YPG..

    Good thread on Turkey and Syria. I totally agree.

    If your solution to a terrorist statelet was to displace it with different terrorists who are the sworn enemies of a NATO ally, and hope said NATO state would get used to this mortal threat on their borders, perhaps it wasn't a very good "counterterrorism" policy to begin with?

    What we’re dealing w/is not a “deep state” w/agencies pursuing institutional interests. We’re dealing, instead, w/a network of individuals at the top of those agencies who conspired against Trump 2016 and then, post-election, to cover it up. The Dem-media complex abets.

    The IC is far more ideologically diverse than it gets credit for. But yeah, the only thing more plainly absurd than the notion it’s a predominantly liberal place is the idea that the FBI is a bunch of Democrats.
