I did a Thomas Friedman this morning after landing in Tunis. I asked the cab driver his views about the elections. He voted Kais Saied in 1st round & Nahda yesterday. "The others only care about the wealthy in Tunis"

A very fair question from the head of the press office in SDF. Are US deals today as lasting as a Trump tweet?

Journalists/analysts asking what happens to al-Hol & its lot of foreigners? But who is asking what happens to residents of Raqqa, Qamishli, Deir al-Zor governorate, Hasake, Tal Abyad, Amuda, Kobani...is there a plan for them?

What is insane is that different outcomes were possible: - beefed up safe zone + strengthening local governance; or - negotiated settlement between SDF & Damascus (with US-led coalition strengthening hand of SDF in negotiations)

A lot of questions this morning: - Why abandon the Turkey/US joint patrols / safe zone model so quickly? - What happens to areas under SDF control away from border? Raqqa, Deir al-Zor? if SDF redeploys for fight along border, Iran best placed to fill vacuum in Deir al-Zor

US pull out from NE in this way – without any agreement in place – is a disaster. Most pundits focus on ISIS angle. While important, real priority should be locals & their wellbeing. If Turkey attacks, new waves of displacement expected & more instability along euphrates

Great article by about protests in Iraq. The discussion of recognition echoed strongly with research: youth engagement is in part about seeking recognition that breaks with how political systems order them as citizens

Worrying warning by SDF spokesperson. Al-Hawl camp is really an indictment of lack of policy by international community to deal with this issue.
