    اختلف أهل العلم في إخوة يوسف عليه السلام هل كانوا أنبياء، أم رجال صالحين؟ • روى الطبري في «تفسيره» (١٥٢/١٢) بسنده عن ابن زيد أنهم أنبياء. • رجّح ابن كثير في «البداية والنهاية» (٢٢٨/١) بعد ذكر الخلاف أنهم ليسوا بأنبياء.

    While ibn Kathir, after he mentioned the difference of opinion in Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah, considered what is correct is that they are in fact not prophets.

    There is a disagreement amongst ahlul-'ilm concerning the brothers of Yusuf ('alayhis-salam); are they prophets or simply righteous men? Tabari related in his tafsir with a chain of narration from ibn Zayd that they are in fact prophets.

    بسبب نكولهم عن الجهاد والخروج مع الرسول في سبيل الله ، ( فهم لا يفقهون ) أي : لا يفهمون ما فيه صلاح لهم فيفعلوه ، ولا ما فيه مضرة لهم فيجتنبوه .

    Imam ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) said: Due to their abstaining from jihad and departing with the Messenger for the sake of Allah. "So they understand not." They do not comprehend what contains benefit for them in order to do it and what is harmful for them in order to avoid it.

    كيف رضوا لأنفسهم أن يكونوا مع النساء المتخلفات عن الجهاد هل معهم فقه أو عقل دلهم على ذلك أم طبع الله على قلوبهم فلا تعي الخير، ولا يكون فيها إرادة لفعل ما فيه الخير والفلاح؟ فهم لا يفقهون مصالحهم فلو فقهوا حقيقة الفقه لم يرضوا لأنفسهم بهذه الحال التي تحطهم عن منازل الرجال

    Or is it, that Allah has sealed their hearts so that they are not conscious of the good and do not have the will to undertake what contains good and success? Thus they do not understand their benefits.
