Here's Bernie Sanders speaking in 1999 about Kosovo. "Mr. Milosevic is a war criminal," he said, a fact that "cannot be ignored." And while lamenting the lack of congressional authorization, "I have supported the NATO bombings of military targets."https://youtu.be/R8S19u91Dfs?t=92 …

I promise, should it be necessary, to delete this tweet before M. Tracey or his dad can quote it in October 2020.

On Afghanistan, Bernie Sanders is not ruling out the idea of maintaining "residual forces" in the country. Elizabeth Warren, while promising to begin a withdrawal immediately, did not respond to WaPo's request for clarification. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/policy-2020/foreign-policy/ …pic.twitter.com/PnoVCCSdgN

I do think a better follow-up question would be: And what about the airstrikes? Because the reliance on air power is, in no small part, an effort to reduce the PR threat of US boots on the ground—soldiers in body bags—at the expense of Afghan lives.https://fpif.org/mass-killings-in-afghanistan-are-acts-of-white-supremacy/ …

Withdrawing from Syria, also: think about how much coverage Trump's tweeted promise got compared to a couple years of intense aerial bombardment. And some on the left played into this, even though US troops on the ground weren't the reason tens of thousands died in airstrikes.

Let's allow for the possibility that, in 2019, you may have to do the last resort and blow up some bad people: terrorists and génocidaires. Is the reliance on airstrikes a military necessity, in such an age, or a means of shifting the death toll from military forces to civilians?

This is why they want to withdraw from Afghanistan and let the Taliban do what they want? Or do nothing against Assad? I'm glad that you can get fooled by this nonsense, but for the rest of us who care they'll have to be better.

Both good answers, to be honest.

Same page, as usual. Both support NATO, which is essential.

"As president I would mobilize resources of our nation to isolate economically+diplomatically the perpetrators of such violence" Does this not apply to the Assad regime? Bernie Sanders told this media outlet that he is in favor of engaging with the genocidal Assad regime.
