Wow! Turkey announces a proposal for repatriation of Syrian refugees & creation of a “safe zone” in northern Syria (in Kurdish areas) Plan: 140 villages hosting 5,000 people; 10 districts with 30,000 population. Population engineering if there was ever one. Via @YusufErim79pic.twitter.com/dLtQXosHdN

There's no such thing as a "Kurdish Area". Syria belongs to all Syrians of every ethnicity and religion. Stop trying to segregate people on a racial bases, it's 2019 and this isn't Israel.

Elizabeth and don't know your name so I'll call you Syrian Girl, what are your opinions on the Safe Zone development and repatriation plan?

I'm writing an article on this that will come out next week. I'm confident it will never be implemented, which is a good thing. Turkey is a generous host of refugees and shouldn't have to indefinitely host Syrian refugees, but this Arabization-deportation plan is not the solution

they should be giving those refugees a pathway to citizenship (especially the many children born to Syrian parents in Turkey). I feel the same way for all countries with refugees who cannot return home

No, they are Syrian and belong in Syria, if they want to go home they should be able to. They'll need housing either way, houses don't grow on trees. Would it change your mind if I told you a lot of the refugees living on the Turkish border are Kurdish?

No, it's not "wow" - if Turkey really wants to repatriate Syrians, they will find out where they came from in the 1st place & build homes & villages there. Not take-over N Syria & push out the Kurdish majority population

What if they came from the "Kurdish majority areas". You know, from the villages that the YPG burnt down. Would you then be ok with these villages Grabowski? Or would you wish them never to return?pic.twitter.com/AvPpGwJ6L1

Hasan your (@AliAlleile as well) comments lead me to ask four questions. 1) Do you have a better proposal? Does any other country? 2) Wouldn't Syrians returning to Syria and the rebuilding/development of the region support a political solution process.

        3) if the YPG is left unchecked, do you see Syria in one piece in 5-10 years or divided.

        4) When the SDF was providing coordinates for USAF and leveled Raqqa was that not an induced population exodus? Turkey defeated DAESH in the Euphrates Shield area but cities were in tact. Yet many of the areas the SDF took, especially Arab majority cities have been destroyed.

Syria is one big "population engineering" experiment, it's an obscenity, a modern-day Nakba using the GWoT for cover - all that to stop people having freedom.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/13/irans-syria-project-pushing-population-shifts-to-increase-influence …

There's no demographic engineering. They're all Syrians and can live together in harmony. They have done for centuries until Assad authoritarian regime came to power and started to divide and rule.

What an excellent and efficient way to disrupt the kurdish wish for a sovereing state of even autonomy. Can't wait to hear about how for some reason refugees couldn't/wouldn't move there so now Erdogan-friendly turks are paid to move in.
