Great steps to keep in mind though a lot of them will come naturally after you put actual numbers together so don't go crazy trying to memorize anything. . At the end of the day a budget is just a list. I break my list into four kinds of expenses: fixed variable irregular and savings. Irregular is mostly for sinking funds. .
