“People say ‘one cannot help one’s thoughts.’ But one can. The control of the thinking machine is perfectly possible. And since nothing whatever happens outside our brain...the supreme importance of being able to control what goes on in that mysterious brain is patent.”

“And without the power to concentrate - that is to say, without the power to dictate to the brain its task and to ensure obedience - true life is impossible. Mind control is the first element of a full existence.” (Bennett, P. 37)

‘A man may desire to reach Mecca...He fares forth...He may probably never reach Mecca...But he will not be tormented in the same way as the man who, desiring to reach Mecca, and harried by desire to reach Mecca, never leaves Brixton” Deep insight from Arnold Bennett (1867-1931)

Imam talked for half an hour about the virtue of not rushing. He specifically advised the congregation to take some moments after prayer, leave calmly & not rush to leave. The moment he finished salah, 3/4 of the congregation rushed to the doors causin the familiar hectic scenes.

This is a beautiful version of singing these lyrics in Persian -Bandari style- And then compare the beauty of Iranian culture to the crude world of Trump and Pence. Yikes.

O friend, come, let us not consume tomorrow's grief, and let us count as gain this one moment's cash: tomorrow when we pass away from the face of the earth we shall be level with those of seven thousand years ago. - Khayyam (translated by Arberry)

Sisi and ISIS are the same exact letters in different order. Terrorism and tyranny feed off each other in Middle East. Egyptian prisons have radicalised more people than any single group or text. Dictators will bring West no security

Thanks to Sisi, I finally know where does Kurdish word بڵح - blh comes from. It almost has the same meaning. It is used to describe a useless person of no substance basically a longer way of saying Sisi.

Twitter & SM should be a place to unite not divide. It is a means of communication and absolutely not appropriate for in-depth discussions! Such discussions start with ‘verily’ and ends with calling each other whore and incel.

I know, there are people who love and enjoy the controversy. The way to counter them is to not engage with them. There are appropriate venues for everything and لكل مقام مقال.

The twitter fueds between Western Muslim scholars, preachers, intellectuals over highly complicated theological issues which soon turn into personal fueds & fans cheering is ridiculous. It’s like a discussion group from the Abbasid times but without the class, depth and adab.

UAE’s Twitter Minister calls last night’s protests in Egypt ‘an organised campaign by MB’ and claims it has failed. Abu Dhabi’s petrothugs have more respect for a Houthi drone than the entire MENA population.

Got to say, I''m a little skeptical of the liberal commentators, who sold us on the 30 June 2013 protests as a pro-democracy movement, lecturing us about what's happening now in 2019. Maybe sit this one out, y'all.

Great dynamics for next 72 hours: - Main target, Sisi, is outside Egypt. - Brutal crackdown while Sisi is in UN/NYC will be more costly. - Sisi allies/sponsors Netanyahu-MbS-MbZ all entangled in crisis. - More importantly, psychological barrier broken tonight.

I first started using Twitter on January 25th 2011 in support of the nascent Egyptian revolution. Tonight smells very much the same. Will the outcome be the same? I don’t know or care. You do what you gotta do and He will do what He wills.

What I've seen tonight it's different from protests, dynamics in the streets are different, the response from the regime might be different. We'll see what will come out of this genuine outburst of discontent but it's amazing hearing again

From Alexandria, Egypt’s second largest city - moments ago. Going on strike for climate change is cool and cute, but have you tried going against a brutal dictator who kills men and rapes women for a living?
