    On -backed : you can't be an effective & reliable military force within such a short time, limited capabilities, if it wasn't parralleled w/effective gov structures & leaders. More efforts needed for NE project, yet first away from Assad, Erdogan & Rouhani claws.

    Agree 100%. This great article by and does a good job examining the steps taken by the SDF to promote inclusiveness in N/E Syria. Compares favorably w/other rebel-ruled areas for inclusiveness. USA help can make it better.

    Earlier this year in , I noted that Erdogan’s “safe zone” is really a plan to extend Turkey’s southern border 20 miles into Syria (left). Today before the UNGA, he confirmed as much with a map (right). The territory happens to cover all the Kurdish areas of Syria.
