I've been told "paki go home" more times since Brexit June 2016 than in th 10 years before that. We are definitely going backwards to the bad old days of the 70s

As a white man I used to kid myself that Britain was becoming less racist but Brexit has shown me to be massively wrong - they never stopped being racist they just didn't say it loud. I'm guessing you could have told me that all along.

I was the same. I genuinely though Britain wasn’t racist. And then I had a black girlfriend. Some of the shit my friends came out with was horrendous. I had just never seen it before

Sadly a lot white pple are actually shocked and ashamed at the level of racism that still exists. Sometimes their silence is because they don’t know where to start or how to deal with it all. In this case silence is not complicity but reflection. Love conquers all 🥰

Even if she didn't handle herself with grace and class, there is no place for racism in an allegedly "civilized " society.

Main surprising thing for me about this is the fact that so many people are surprised it's still happening. Although that's not surprising either. How many times have those of us faced with this type of behaviour/language been dismissed because we have a chip on our shoulder.

This is a key point. Just as men tend to downplay women's experiences of sexism, white people tend to downplay BME experiences of racism. Those reactions aren't deliberately prejudiced, but they are an excellent example of how racism (and sexism) are structural.

Sir Lenny Henry once did a really cool show called "Lenny Go Home" where he went back to his old stomping grounds in Dudley. I thought it was the perfect way to poke fun of and educate those ignorant people.

That is a different argument to the real one going on in America .you were told and ignored it,it's about patriotism and support for your country .No mention of the benefit bill the four opposed ,glossed over😡

That’s an interesting angle. Does patriotism mean not being able to have alternative views? Was everyone who opposed it told to go home, or just these non-white ones? Racism needs to be called out. One day we may find ourselves the victims of ‘patriots’

It's sad to see in a time where travel, communication and different cultural differences meet every day, that we have people not just in power but in general making back hand comments and thinking they've done nothing wrong. It beggars belief. I thought we'd left the 70's behind
