    Big story in Russia, today: Kremlin plans to cut civil service by 15%, increasing wages for those remaining, while saving $1.5bn annually, within 2 years. A big deal in a country where the state plays an outsize role as an employer, by European standards.

    Oh, for God's sake. Are we now to abandon traditional English and refer to Moscow as Moskva, Armenia as Hayastan, and Germany as Deutschland? Pettiness on the part of the Ukrainians and their American sympathizers.

    Victory ! Will the now follow suit? (Always thought it was strange that foreigners dictated to locals how they should spell their names and places.)

    When the official policy is non-recognition, there will normally not be anyone who does not fall into step. Samantha Power has apologized recently. The April 2009 proclamation was the high water mark to date, and she had a visible hand in it. Making progress...

    This statement needed to be accompanied by an acknowledgement of, and apology for, the Obama White House reneging on a high-profile campaign promise of Armenian Genocide recognition *and* for hiring genocide deniers to serve in the administration.

    Actually, we denied Iran all possible pathways to the bomb. You reopened them, provided maps and lighting and took away the speed limit signs.

    The Iranian regime’s lack of full cooperation with raises questions about possible undeclared nuclear material or activities. This fits into Iran’s 40-year pattern of lies. The world won’t fall for it. We will deny the regime all paths to a nuclear weapon.

    Health warning: the vote in Crimea’s Sevastopol didn’t go to liberals or pro-Ukrainians. Instead went to Nationalist LDPR (18%) & the Communists (also 18%), who broadly think Putin’s too soft on Ukraine. Meanwhile (centre-left) Just Russia got 8% & the Party of Pensioners 6%.
