I suspect that within a few years, Remainers in the UK in will ask each other “how could we have been so short-sighted as to overreach and provoke an irresistible popular backlash”? My speculation about the mechanism:

Turns out that your grave isn’t secure if you’re one of those maniacs that saved a Christian country from the authors of diabolical persecutions of Christians, which in a few years had already martyrized more people than the Romans in centuries.

Excellent thread. Either you support greatly expanding nuclear power, or you don't believe in doing something about climate change. It really is either/or. And for a lot of climate activists, it's "or."

Superb profile of Vladimir Putin by former US diplomat . One of the few Westerners who actually met Putin, and got to know him, before picking up the pen. ps. 99% of Anglo-American biographies of Putin are pure garbage. Save your money/time.

Contest: generate a theory on which disinterring the bodies of one’s political enemies, via court order, is a ‘great victory for democracy.’ The winner will immediately be awarded tenure and become an officially approved intellectual.

The fact that impeaching Bush over launching a war on false pretenses was considered crazy and a nonstarter, whereas impeaching Trump over anonymous rumors is considered obviously correct, should make you suspicious of how the media treats the whole impeachment question

What a foolish notion. Attacking prorogation decisions in court now becomes a standard political tool, available to all parties. “It arises in circumstances which have never arisen before and are unlikely ever to arise again. It is a “one off”.”
