feminists have been speaking out against child beauty pageants (and beauty pageant in general but that's a different post) for forever but it's only now that the same thing is being done to little boys in the form of "drag kids" that people are recognizing it as abusive. female socialization is immediately recognized as abusive when it's done to males.
@inceloid
there's also definitely a homophobic element to it
@georgia there is but i cannot justify a child in drag as anything other than grooming/pedophilia. it's disturbing to see a young child performing in an adult way
@inceloid
its pedophilia either way, but people are much readier to believe that a girl would act in a manner sexually objectifying herself to adult men of her own volition than a boy.
True. It's an obvious double standard. @inceloid
@inceloid the sad part is that these things with kids are usually female (mom or caregiver) driven, including Munchausens and Transhausens By Proxy......
This makes me think of something I read where someone said that “oh my dad wanted boys” is a common trope in tv and movies, but if a male character said that “his mother wanted girls” and he was raised to be very feminine, that people would consider it abusive of his mother to have made him feel like he needed to take on feminine traits in order to make his mother happy.
Wow good point @inceloid
