if you think "historial accuracy" is important to this, you must be really dense. there is No historical or plot driven reason why tanjiro's earrings are designed with the r/ising sun flag. historical accuracy is not relevant in this case.

i realize that i made mistakes on my part with this post, especially for lumping se asians with east asians, and i apologize for that. ive been informed that this is something se asians have dealt with before, and my privilege as a korean american blinded me in that regard.
next time, i wont try to include that, unless se asians overwhelmingly ask, and ill rt their posts to share their direct thoughts instead. i wasnt trying to speak over se asians, but in the end i did, and i apologize.
but regardless, even if you are east/se asian, and dont feel uncomfortable with the design, please know that many do. and for this reason the earrings were modified for other countries. but if you assumed i was white/rich, even when you looked at my bio, you should take a closer

im not saying the mangaka had any ill intentions, especially since the japanese arent taught of the flags' controversy, its use as an official flag, and as a cultural icon. the RS flag has a horrific history and my main goal is to bring attention to it, not completely censor it.
the jp studio HAD to agree to make the modification a reality, they understand that the design is uncomfortably similiar to the RS motif. as a korean i appreciate their efforts to do that. i dont want to censor history, but if theres a canon alternative, why not use it in an
effort to be more sensitive to those that feel uncomfortable? again, this post was a suggestion, and im sorry many felt that i was attacking people who already used the original, but its important to know the horrific history. empathy is an important factor in the anime, why

My grandmother's entire family was uprooted from their home in Nanking due to the massacres and occupation. They still face the trauma of broken relationships and suffer the lasting impacts of the horrors that happened. Guess what, some of us are outraged on behalf of our own.
That's a tragedy, but my grandmother's family went through that too. Yet I'm not about to make out this particular usage of the rising sun motif to something it isn't. Just because it was used in wartime Japan doesn't mean every instance of it has the imperialist sentiment.
Do you feel the same way about nazi flags? We're not the ones who gave that flag the connotations it has, we're not responsible for respecting its current form. If Japan doesn't want to associate it with imperialist sentiment, then they shouldn't have commited atrocities under it

I can like a character and its design and the story it takes place in while recognizing its problematic elements. Not to mention her story is one of the exploitation of violence and the individual and its resulting eventual breakdown of personhood.

just an fyi: Rising Sun Flag was made during the Edo Period (1603–1868 CE) Hanafuda cards were first made in during the Tokugawa Shogunate (aka Edo Bakufu) Demon Slayer takes place in the Taisho Period (1912-1926)
it is entirely possible that the earrings are based off the Rising sun flag, but you have to remember the the anime is is technically being historically accurate. Is it still offensive? Yeah.
BUT I think the context of the earrings is what matters. It was a family heirloom passed down from his dad. It represents Family to Tanjiro.
