is not a stylistic choice, but a clear symbol of Japanese colonialism and support of Japanese superiority. No one in Japan would think of flying it “for team spirit”, which only leaves racists / ultra nationalists. Do you want racists and ultranationalist at the olympics? 2/?

Imagine you were a country in Europe, and Germany was hosting the olympics. The German president panders to the far right they’ve gotten into a few economic spats with surrounding countries. You ask them to ban the Nazi flag. They tell you no. How does that look? 3/?

There is literally no excuse for allowing the imperial Japanese flag. Who are they cheering for, the Japanese Navy? Cause they’re the only group that continues using the flag in an official capacity. People really need to call Japan out on this shit, ESPECIALLY foreign govs. 4/?

Imperialist-apologists coming out in droves about how Korea “didn’t care” before 2012, and how people use the flag outside of Japan all the time. Korea has cared for a WHILE now, and a bunch of culturally uninformed people abroad using the flag doesn’t concern me.pic.twitter.com/Wjr7HY1VDC

Nothing to promote, but: Love your neighbor. Trans rights are human rights. Nationalism is garbage. Drop acid, not bombs.

Do they actually plan on flying it at the event?
-
Not officially, but is about whether or not the flag should be allowed to be flown at the games. Common sense and understanding of history would say yes, of course, but the JOC is incompetent as always.

Well there you have it.

Unfortunately, the government here can often be insensitive and without sincerity regarding our past. I'm really sorry this decision was made, and our people don't support this.

Let's NOT forget the slave labor going into building the new stadium, either.
-
i haven't heard anything about this, do you happen to have any links?
-
I first found mention of it here: https://youtu.be/wt__lHCuH5g It's from about four years ago and not detailed, so I was suspicious, but here's mention of it just last year: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2018/01/02/national/abuses-still-abound-labor-strapped-japans-foreign-trainee-worker-system/#.XXBj5lMpA0M …
-
Just looking it up, there's not a super amount of evidence, that the unskilled workers who worked on the stadium were not properly cared for. There is still evidence that many contractors and bosses were not properly looking after their employees: https://www.globalslaveryindex.org/2018/findings/country-studies/japan/ …

In this day and age, I’m afraid that flying this flag might even lead to ww3
especially with how japan and Korea’s relationship haven’t been the best either, even politically. Lots of Korean and Japanese is it eachitehr country for either tourism or work, so I can only-
-
-imagine the negative effect on both economies. On top of that, people who aren’t Japanese/korean will pick a side which will just complicate things, n how world leaders will react to that would be affected too in the long run. Let’s hope this won’t happen, don’t wanna jinx it
