[BREAKING] Japan denies request from S.Korean gov't to ban imperial war flags from 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which is strictly banned from FIFA int'l matches. The world should boycott #Tokyo2020 because it's gonna be the first fascist Olympic since Berlin 1936.pic.twitter.com/ck6x8KRjwq

Some fascists claims the political neutrality of Rising Sun Flag saying it has long traditional usages like by fishermen to celebrate a big catch. And so what? Olympic games are not fishery. https://risingsunstory.jimdofree.com/ pic.twitter.com/amRvwbpziO

Can you please clarify what you mean by "ban?" Banned by spectators or banned in an official capacity? It's not a flag most would want to see, but lunatic fringe spectators carrying the flag is rather different than anything sponsored or official.

That means you can wave the flag in spectator's seats. And it's prohibited in football games because it's too hostile and racist.

I understand why it is prohibited; not my question at all. I am asking if there was anyone in an official capacity (sponsors, government) that would actually use such a flag. Were there commercial reasons for not instituting a ban? Not clear from the original wording.

I don't know. The request from S. Korean gov't is not concerned whether it's official or not all along.

To clarify: I was wondering if there were any sponsors or government associations that actually want to use such a flag and thus, no ban. There will always be right wing racists; but having it displayed, for example, on the top of stadium flagpoles would be radically different.

Nobody worries about the war flag flown on the flagpoles. You miss the point.

The Tokyo Olympic Committee insists the Rising Sun Flag is widely used in Japan. Yes, Japanese racists use it in hate demo.https://twitter.com/Mac20783017/status/1168642219512754176?s=19 …

What? The flag is widely used in Japan? Where? They mean it’s widely used by those racists? I’ve never encountered one myself.

Yes, I’m aware the flag is used heavily in the right-wing rallies . I’m just appalled that the Olympic committee allows it in Olympic games as if it’s used widely by the mass, which is not the case. Thanks for the info though.

Watch urawa reds games @J-league every weekend, you will see that they are hanged on back-goal stands, actually if you open your eyes a bit, you can see them somewhere on every sports events. That was the reason of concern for olympics.

As a Japanese, I’m very ashamed of the Japanese committee’s decision. When we see the flag, it instantly reminds of us the imperial war and militarism. I totally agree with boycotting #Tokyo2020

I'm against holding the Olympic Games in Tokyo. It's strongly suspected that invited it by a bribe. Japan PM Shinzo Abe said "under control" about the Fukushima nuclear plant accident. But, it's a lie. Nobody can control the Fukushima nuclear plant accident.
