[Updated 2009-12-02 02:00 UTC] Oh, and you thought your cable outages were annoying?

Imagine how we feel when our ISP, which supposedly has redundant links, seems to have perennial peering issues.

Pretty much the only way you're going to be getting your wholesome, furry goodness *cough* at this point is by throwing a party in the server room. (And I'd imagine that S&D would take issue with that.)

tl;dr - ISP's shit's broke. Nothing we can do about it. Patience is a virtue. Etc, etc, etc.

PS: I totally just noticed that I haven't done stats in like... two months. Not that I can do it now. Servers are inaccessible. :D

Lack of update: 2009-12-01 15:30 UTC (10:30 EST)

Well, what can I say. Our ISP is still not talking to us. (And I'm sure anyone who is resourceful can dig up who our ISP is.)

Going on 24 hours with no updates. When we know something, we'll post it.

We also have no plans to ask for donations for this problem. Because it won't actually solve the problem, in this case.

Update: 2009-12-02 02:00 UTC (21:00 EST)

(08:48:04 PM) Dragoneer: That the fiber lines were damaged, they're doing emergency repairs.

No estimate.

See this is what happens when people save money and use muscle fibre instead of glass fibre for internet usage (waits to see if Happy Tree Friends will use that in a new episode)
I'm sorry to hear this, as I was trying to log in to check my account and find out what the email of a certain artist I need to pay, you know who you are if you read this, if you can shoot me a PM about PayPal and the money will be yours, when FA poofed like the hopes and dreams of millions of CA parents hoping to bilk MJ out of a fortune.
this will just be a lesson to all those doing buisness to save commission/artist notes, and commissioner/arist emails onto their computers- especially considering FA'S history of crashing.

I guess IronPath isnt as 'iron' as they ought it to be... Ironyy....
I know this has got to be the best win comment so far at least to me.

"IORN" path my rear end.
Dammit, I guess I'll post too. Sucks that FA is down but oddly enough there was a world before the internet and hell the rest of the internet is still here as this is going on.
I have commissions as well but that's why I get the email address just in case (plus it helps if you want them to be able to send you ref picks easily). As for working on them, considering you don't need FA to draw, paint or ink it's not really holding anyone back :p
That Image is Epic Win. I hope you upload it to FA if it ever comes back. Maybe this should be the FA LJ Banner. It will be a nice one to have while we pass the time until we get our FA back.
stay tuned on KrystalNews in order to follow the development of this mysterious case. all the news in a nutshell
Wow, still no luck huh? * puppy eyes* it IS coming back.....right? Ide be willing to pay for an account in the future if that means a better ISP :/
oh well, guess I'll just keep checking back here.
Get well soon fa! :)
i love it how everyone's automatically going to e621 and a bunch of other places and crashing them with flooding xD

.....unfortunately i'm one of those ppls ;-;
Well I gotta say I have a lot of sympathy for them. Depending on where said fiber cable is, it could be miles long and if it was well damaged they have to dig the entire thing up. They can't be repaired like copper wire and the like. The downside of lengthy fiber cables.
Ive heard that most cable at this level is duplex(2 way) with repeaters every 2 or so km because of signal degradation(2.2 miles) maximum distance that point to point on fibre without repeaters is about 2500 meters so even this is pushing it for noise.

With the distance between FA's co-loc and the ISP of the co-loc it may be possible the distance of the link is less than this so they may just replace the whole line of cable which would take a while.

otherwise they just replace from repeater to repeater. by uncoupling them on either end and re-running the line. Though replacing that much cable can get very expensive indeed.
oh yeah that was me i steal copper wires and shit
sry furaffinity
I feel sorry for the artists in need who were hoping to get new commissions fast.

I also feel sorry (although not as much) for the fappers who only favorite their fapping material instead of downloading it to their PCs. It must be itching down there atm...
I'm one of the ones who wants to post one of those "plz commission me, I'm 100% free" journals
It's really hard to believe that so many people have nothing to do but sit around and complain because a web site is down.

For me, the interesting thing about this outage is that once again it proves the vulnerability of the internet as it exists today. High volume and long distance connections are supposed to be redundant now, not a single line from Washington DC to Sacramento or whatever like the way things were back in, lessee, 1858? Obviously, corporate profit of the backbone providers comes before good design and preparedness.

Imagine if this outage were to affect some high volume commercial site right now, in the midst of the holiday shopping rush. Slamazon? WalWart? WorstBuy? There would be mushroom clouds over the corporate HQ of the providers in a matter of minutes. If it affected the federal government, the Homeland Insecurity team would be out there cordoning off half the country and making us all take off our shoes so they could be sure we weren't terrorists.

However, for those of us who live in rural America, it's just a day like any other day. Our internet connections are perpetually bad and there is NO broadband out here. So what's all the bitching about? Go read a book. Write a story. Draw a picture. Make love to someone. There's more to life than the internet.
BUT WITHOUT FURRY PORN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT IN MY LIFE!!!!!
I might as well shoot myself nao. D:

Good luck you guys, I love this site since it keeps me in contact with so many awesome friends. <3 Even the wait the other year to have it back up was fine with me.
Photobucket
finally FA mods are pissing their balls off of this harassing situation..i really do hope too they will find a way more reliable ISP than the one they're using ASAP..FA deserves more gold and glory than sucha crappy 3-crappy-fiber-cable-and-some-plaster-stuck-together-poor-beggar's host (so-called)
