The CAA released the first of its 25th Anniversary teams on Tuesday and three Mason women's soccer players were among the 25 honored for their accomplishments. Jenn Gross (1993-97), Jaime Pagliarulo (1995-98) and Tammy Pearman (1991-94) were selected to the team, which recognizes accomplishments beginning in the fall of 1993 when women's soccer began competing as a CAA sponsored sport.
Of the eight schools to place student-athletes on the Silver Anniversary Team, only William & Mary (eight) and James Madison (four) had more than Mason's three. Old Dominion had three, Hofstra, Richmond and VCU had two and UNC Wilmington had one.
Gross was a four-year starter for the Patriots and she competed in five different seasons, earning a medical redshirt two games into the 1995 season. She was named first-team All-CAA four times, She was NSCAA All-Region three times and All-Virginia twice. In 1993 she started all 23 games with 17 goals and six assists. She had six game-winning goals as Mason advanced to the National Title Game. She was named CAA Rookie of the Year. In 1994, she had 18 goals and two assists with five game-winning goals. One goal came in 1995 before her season ended prematurely but she picked up again in 1996 with 16 goals and five assists. In 1997, she set career highs in every statistical category, with 24 starts, 20 goals, eight assists, 48 points and seven game-winning goals.
Gross holds four of the top eight seasons in school history in terms of points scored as well as goals scored. She holds the school record for career points (165), career goals (72), career game-winning goals (20), career games played (91), career games started (89), career hat tricks (seven), consecutive games with a goal (seven) and single-season game-winning goals (seven).
Pagliarulo was a four-year starter who made 81 appearances in net for the Patriots. She was three-time All-CAA, three-time All-Virginia, three-time NSCAA All-Region and three times she was named second-team NSCAA All-American. In 1997, while playing for Mason, she was a member of the U.S. National Team. She also was on that team in 2001.
In 1995, Pagliarulo started 16 games for the Patriots with 91 saves, two shutouts and a 2.33 goals-against average. In 1997, in 24 starts, she set career highs with 123 saves and an .820 save percentage and she had six shutouts. In 1998, in 18 starts, she had 67 saves with career-bests in shutouts (seven) and goals-against average (1.00). The 375 saves Pagliarulo tallied in her career are a school record, as are her 123 single-season saves and 20 single-game saves. Her 20 shutouts are second-most in school history.
Pearman's 1991 and 1992 accomplishments and statistics were not taken into account for her inclusion on the 25th Anniversary Team. Nonetheless, she was named All-CAA in 1993 and 1994, CAA Player of the Year in 1994, NSCAA All-Region in 1993 and 1994 and second-team NSCAA All-American in 1994.
In 1993, as a junior, Pearman started 23 games and had 15 goals, one assist and seven game-winning goals. The seven game-winning goals tied Gross for the single-season record. In 1994, Pearman started 21 games, had 18 goals and eight assists with six game-winning goals. In 1995, after graduating from Mason, she was selected to the U.S. National Team. She was a member of that squad from 1995 through 1997.
