What is cross-platform play?
When it comes to video games, cross-platform play, or simply crossplay, means the ability to play an online multiplayer game not only together with friends who are playing on the same hardware platform, like a particular console or PC, but also alongside people using different hardware. That makes it possible, that a player running a PC can play together and party up with friends using a XBox One or PS4 in games like Fortnite. Check out our filter above to see possible combinations.
Currently we have 176 games in our database supporting cross-platform play. Compared with the sheer amount of games available today, that seems not much. The reasons for that are twofold: First of all it is fair to say, that PC gamers using their mouse and keyboard in many cases will have an advantage over console and mobile players. The second reason why there are not more crossplay games around is money. Especially Sony was not willing to allow crossplay with other consoles like the XBox One or Nintendo Switch for a long time.
