If anybody is interested in my journalism from before I came to Russia, I have posted a very small selection on a blog. It's in response to more smears from US state media.

Russia/Ukraine population ratio fell from less than 3:1 to almost 5:1 since 1992. It is ironic that Ukrainian independence has been worse for Ukraine’s population balance vis-a-vis Russia than anything that Lazar Kaganovich and the Nazis did.

Here's an example of why is so popular in Russia. Notably, the NATO aligned lobby group doesn't seem to have a view on whether "Turkstream" (opened last year) is a "weapon." (Atlantic Council gets a lot of money from Turkish donors).

Russia's Foreign Ministry has asked the US to abandon "the use of terrorists for geopolitical purposes" in the Middle East. It's in response to this week's Pentagon report on the situation in Iraq & Syria.

Presumably, the move is aimed at framing the recent Moscow protests as a Western-backed conspiracy. Of course, Atlantic Council's endless stream of anti-Russian messaging, and the sheer bizarreness of "Free Russia Forum" makes such a task easier.

Bad news for London? Russia's finance minister wants more tax revenue from "oligarchs." He proposes to reduce the criteria for tax residence from 183 to 90 days a year. And also penalise those who have their "center of vital interests" in Russia.

Putin's two decades effectively running the show in Moscow compares to Josef Stalin's 30 years, & Leonid Brezhnev's 18 in the Kremlin. Mikhail Gorbachev had only six. He's the longest serving Russian-born leader of the post-Tsar era. Stalin was Georgian & Brezhnev Ukrainian.

I can’t imagine Vladimír Putin, Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, or any European leader (even Boris Johnson) visiting the area of a tragedy, then releasing video of themselves being deluged with fawning applause, accompanied by uplifting music. This is crazy.

Btw, sorry, I preemptively tweeted this yesterday. Putin was first made PM on 9th August 1999. His second stint began on 8th August 2008. I got them mixed up. 🤫🤭😬🤢

Twenty years ago today, the guy on the left was appointed as Russian Prime Minister. He was the 5th holder of the office in 17 months in a crisis-ridden country. Today, no Russian under 25 remembers a time when Putin wasn’t either President or Prime Minister.
