I never understood the argument in favor of the US withdrawing from Syria. I tried, but it sounds irrational. I understand it if made by pro-Assad/Russia/Iran folks or by those who don’t watch Syria closely (those screaming “Iraq” without context.) But never why experts make it.

risks are not minimal. losing
#US soldiers in a suicide bombing engineered by ISIS or Assad-cum-Iran is never minimal. Assuming “mission is finished” a mission which keeps changing- who is going 2sustain “benefits”?Can locals do it alone against TR, Assad & Iran?Highly doubtful -
You make the case for this argument well, an argument that several other experts make. I still think it’s not persuasive, to not want to deal with a mess (that could become a lot messier, rather than improves as is the case now) because the final outcome may or may not be good.

The same could be said about your arguments for the case of staying in Syria which have also been made by several other experts. These arguments are not convincing. Let us agree to disagree.

100%. I just meant that discussing this with you is about the general view held by several experts, not aimed at you. Still trying to understand why leaving is more favorable than staying, despite the benefits. Anyway, it’s not the right platform for a full discussion. Speak soon
