CBSE FAQ

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national board and schools across the country are affiliated to it. Centrally run institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodayas are affiliated to CBSE.

CBSE is a progressive board that constantly revises its curriculum to keep is relevant to modern economic requirements. CBSE also offers flexibility in subject choices thereby helping the student pursue her/his interests. Many entrance exams for national institutions are based on CBSE's curriculum. Lastly, CBSE offers mobility to parents who expect to shift jobs or locations as each CBSE affiliated school should follow the requirements of the board. 

CBSE curriculum is comprehensive and yet flexible. It offers students multiple ways of learning a subject. The HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) is an example of an initiative of how the board is encouraging thinking skills and is trying to move beyond rote learning. The curriculum rewards diligence. As long as students are regular with their work, they tend to do well 

Yes. A student can attend grade 9 and 10 in different schools under CBSE. When moving to a new school for grade 10, the student must have passed grade 9 at the previous school. Further, the student must produce a valid transfer certificate duly countersigned by the educational authorities concerned. It is better to do the transfer before July as schools need to register students with the board.

CBSE has not prescribed any age criteria for admissions to grade 1. However, parents are expected to follow the minimum age requirement as prescribed by the state government. Similarly, parents are expected to follow the age criteria prescribed by the state government for students appearing for grade 10 exams.

The minimum percentage of attendance required by CBSE to make the student eligible for grade 9 and 10 exams is 75%.
