This is why physical releases will always remain king.

*glances over at all the reasons why physical gaming is not as eternal as everyone makes it out to be*
-
-
> Disc rot > Dying/aging hardware > A severe lack/inability to preserve video games
-
yeah but if a company decides to pull the plug your physical games don't vanish
-
That's right, physical and digital suffer from different problems. Also your games aren't vanishing. I'm sure it's been pirated 101 times, and you can download it to your console now to keep it.
-
The only valid one is disc rot. Those digital backups were largely made with physical media. Dying hardware also effects digital backups. Emulators =/= the same experience. Digital is a great additive experience not a better alternative. Hand in hand is the way to go.
-
Somewhat agree. Digital currently has lots of issues, namely the ability to download games after licenses expire, stores shut down, etc. If these issues were solved, which would be difficult, then it'd be on par, if not better than physical. Aging hardware is a massive issue.

Ah yes, Digital gaming sure is the way of the future people
-
The worst part is that there exist physical games that still need you to download part of them. This is one of my biggest pet peeves because it kinda defeats the purpose of getting the game physically to begin with.
-
Fun fact: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 is completely unplayable now, because the disc only has the tutorial level. You had to download the rest of the game from an update, but the server with the update was shut down.pic.twitter.com/AtPtHFE9JG
-
The update is still available and actually you can play the entire game from the disc without updates. You just have to start a private match by pressing triangle/Y instead of X/A to start, otherwise the game tries to join an online game but can't because it need an update.
-
Really? That’s actually new info to me, because I tried to look around to find an answer but most say that the full game is unavailable without the update
-
As someone who (Unfortunately) owns a physical copy of the game, it's true. I think people think that because the game will try to force you to download the update if you try to start the game though normal means instead of starting a private match
-
I also just double checked and the update is still availablepic.twitter.com/pe5vfT5n72

What's going on? Did you lose the license?
-
Thats the most likely situation
-
If so, then how did Sega and M2 get the right to put Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion on the Genesis Mini?
-
Different contract.
-
You know, renew this license while they at it? They seem to be on disney's good side!
-
they won't, disney wants to focus on... EA...
-
Basically, both capcom AND wayforword have to grovel in front of the mouse's needs to renew the license or risk getting the game pirated. Ooor....
@WayForward if you hear us, release physical. EA is a waste of time, just like all of disney's outings lately. A HUGE waste of time -
Sorry, as the developer, we're not involved with these arrangements! (There has been a physical release, however!)
