Hate 2disagree with @elizrael As someone who advocated for #US engagement in #Syria 2012-2015, I would argue since fall 2015 there is no upside for #US staying in Syria anymore. Time 4us 2pack & leave: The progressive case for staying in #Syria, for nowhttps://www.mei.edu/publications/progressive-case-staying-syria-now …
You are making a perfect case why we should get the hell out of there. We have no horse in that fight. Let Iran, Russia & Assad shoulder responsibility 4continuing fight against ISIS. No need for US to help lighten their load in Syria.

ISIS doesn't just threaten Syria. It threatens the whole world. Allowing it to revive itself is dangerous to the US. Also it is morally reprehensible to allow Turkey to ethnically cleanse Kurds out of northern Syria as it has done to 2/3 of Kurds in Efrin.
-
Furthermore, our position in Syria strengthens our very weak position in Iraq. And if we get pushed out of Iraq, other interests become threatened. It is interesting that you both blame Obama for Syria and use some of Obama's bad arguments for leaving Syria.
-
Pre 2015 Obama could have changed conflict trajectory in Syria. He chose not to. Today the conflict trajectory is irreversible.

Allan is also wrong with his information, there was a moderate Free Syrian Army in 2012-2013,that the west abandoned, plus making the YPG the counter-terrorism force was a huge mistake, the US could have trained an Counter-Terrorism Force composed of the FSA in 2013-14
-
I don't get why Obama didn't want to train a Free Syrian Army Counter-terrorism force against ISIS.oh wait, because the regime and Iranians said no

By allowing a Turkish invasion, the US is acquiescing to the displacement of 100ks of people, the systematic oppression of 100ks more. The situation in NES is the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal conflict. To throw that away is short-sighted and foolish.
