How to make a room smell like perfume?

I'm new to Reddit, so apologies in advance if I am doing this wrong. I recently got a bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh, and I adore the scent. I would love to be able to use it in my room and make it smell like the perfume, however it is far to expensive to keep spritzing around. I was wondering if there is a room spray or a way to make the scent stick?

side question, as all of the daisy perfumes the same? each design/color of bottle seems to have a different scent....

I spray about 2 sprays in a small tabletop humidifier/ oil diffuser and it scents the room nicely. You do need to clean the humidifier very frequently when doing this regularly however.

You can look on eBay for oil clones of your favorite frags. They’re usually really cheap. Then you can spray them in oil diffusers, on furniture, lamp shades, or into HVAC filters. I recently found a spot on clone of the Capri Blue Volcano candle for $9 so now my house smells amazing and my wife isn’t buying $40 candles anymore.

level 2

Really?? What’s the clone? I love this candle and keep rationing out the burn time haha

level 1

HVAC Filters? Holy smokes! That is next level fragrance application. I honestly can't imagine that the fragrance would last long like this...

level 2

I heavily sprayed cologne all over the cabin air filter in my car and it put out a smell for 2-3 weeks. It might not work for an HVAC system though since the air travels a lot further and has to fill up a much bigger space

If you have window cloth or something then it might work.

level 1

Oil diffusers, candles, incense.

If you wanna be hardcore, spray the central air vents or HVAC filter.

I don’t remember who you are you son of a bitch! But.... You commented about dove sage and mineral earlier this week. So I primed me some body wash and deodorant. Put them on this morning, then put on some escentric molecule 01 and then my Irish tweed...... I have literally been complimented by every person I have interacted with this morning and been fragrance raped...... whomever you are..... you are my silent hero!

I treated myself to a bottle of Shalimar that just arrived (bringing my collection up to 3). Wearing it to bed, for no occasion at all.

But I don't wanna be a jerk so I just don't respond. But questions like "What should I wear to work" or "What will make guys like me" are so frustrating, because the beauty of finding a perfect fragrance is that it will work with your body chemistry, and therefore will most likely smell great to other people. Fragrance is such a personal (and fun!!) journey and you should have more confidence in your own personal taste.

Just my two cents.

I collect fragrances, and I had two friends over. When I wasn't in the roon one of them noticed that it stings when sprayed in their eyes. For the next 20 minutes, they wasted 1/3rd of my 3.4 oz bottle spraying it in their eyes and having staring contests.

I don't know if I should ask them to pay for it.

I just sprayed myself with Pacifica Himalayan Patchouli Berry and I smell delicious. I like the Tahitian Gardenia too. Just wanted to share.

I'm(34M) a few years into the frag game now and one of the things that really hasn't appealed to me is layering. Your average frag is a like a cocktail of scent notes... and while mixing liquors/mixers is commonplace, would you normally mix two cocktails together?

Enter Demeter Fragrance, a company that makes mostly single-note fragrances that can take any form you want - diffuser, shower gel, perfume, and more. Demeter is often a punch line, with over 250 scents, and weird ones like dirt and lobster and, further, the performance of their perfumes are laughable, with usually a less-than-30-minute half-life.

Not all of them, though! Extensive experimentation on my part has confirmed that their Pineapple is indeed something special. It sprays on thick and oily, attesting to its concentration. Longevity is an easy 4+ hours on me. And its smell is a photorealistic pineapple, just like you accidentally spilled juice on yourself.

Anyway, while mixing "cocktails"/frags isn't something I'm interested in, I haven't hesitated in adding a spray of pineapple on top of some of my summer frags, and the results have been very successful. The pineapple goes on strong, but wisps of the first frag come through, and any kind of aquatic, fruity, or floral mixes quite well with the pineapple. In most cases, having a 4 hour blast of pineapple turns a linear frag into something a bit more interesting.

I wanted to share this information before summer is out. The northern hemisphere has 2+ more months of heat, and a 5mL sprayer of Demeter Pineapple costs $4. What are you waiting for??

Honorable mention to Demeter Plantain, which I'm still experimenting with; it smells like banana candy with more depth that you'd expect.

Fragrances purchase:

  • Eight and Bob - The Original

  • Chanel - Deauville

Fragrances smelled:

  • A Lot (including a 600EU bottle!!)

Vendom is right next to all the touristy stuff like the big tower that for some reason symbolizes the country and a bunch of other go for the photo destinations. Sure it has the chanel stores and the louie and the rolex stores and the guerlain (nice place!!) and all of the "high end" chains your grandma knows. But it also has every other luxury shop. Lucky for me a "rare perfum" shop was across the street from my hotel room.

Jovoy Parfums Rares. This video on my instagram sums it up. (I regret I did not have time to zoom in on the bottles more.)

Amazing. Hundreds of fragrances I didn't even know existed. From brands I'd never heard of. And everything I smelled was wonderfully different.

The sales person was young, knowledgeable, and friendly. I told her my needs; traveling for business so I need to smell professional and it needs to last. She had me try about a dozen scents, all quite nice. I wish I had gone slower and taken names and photos but I was rushed for time! I tried to impress her with my limited knowledge. Oh I recognize that one! Tauer Morocco Desert Night! She joked that it's very popular on the internet (does she visit this sub , but that there are many middle eastern scents like it. I still think it's a great scent though.

I settled for eight & bob as soon as I smelled it. THIS was the scent. Professional, yet elegant. Gentlemanly, but not grandpa. Unique, but calmly masculine. I didn't know the marketing material until I read more at home. It was JFKs preferred cologne. The special ingredient which limits it's supply comes the andean mountains in chile. A fantastic sales pitch. Who knows if it's true?

After this, she gave me a few samples. *Acqua viva - profumum roma

  • Idole - de lubin

  • Familia - enjoy the weekend

Overall a fantastic experience I haven't had yet in the US.

I was also tasked to go to one of the chanel stores (seriously i know her apartment was in the area but why three stores in a couple blocks?) My french coworker requested a bottle of coco mademousile or whatever. Because it smells different when it comes from france she says. Not my taste or my girlfriends, but no judgment.

The chanel store was interesting. I finally got to try Monsieur which was nice but smelled a bit too much like a bathroom product. The rest were also very strong performers, but not my thing. Besides, why buy in paris what I can buy literally anywhere?

Then she had me try their boutique only fragrances. Rarity is luxury!

Deauville is a region in France. They must be famous for white wines. It opens floral, sweet, and citrus but right before you think it's a feminine floral perfume it diverts to bright, green, oddly, masculine wine. Wonderful and unique to my nose. And oddly inexpensive? I thought chanel was $$$$, but compared to everything else it was more like $$. Worth a bottle.

I left the store with, again, way more samples than I requested. All in all, a great experience and a great way to invest a few hundred dollars in a few hours.

I occasionally post video reviews of fragrances on my instagram. If this gets traction, I'll do more. I'm a novice with fragrances, but I'm learning quick. I'm looking forward to a full review of eight and bob and the deauville!

I went to a store and sniffed caps of about 10 or 15 different fragrances. Then I tested Joop! Jump and sprayed it on my arm. I loved the smell. I ordered it on the internet and when I got it I sprayed it on "clean" myself. It smells totally different and now I don't like it. It's because when I was in a store, my nose was full of other fragrances and once I've tried Joop! Jump I didn't actually smell just this one fragrance but it was a mix of everything. Oh shit :/ And I don't live in USA so this fragrance wasn't that cheap... Oh well...

I wanted to add that Joop! Jump was the only fragrance at that day that I've sprayed on my arm. All other fragrances I've smelt only through a bottle/cap/paper.

I was googling for an answer to that Chicago user and this popped up. It's worldwide and shows retail locations by geography. Check out your city.

They also have an index of perfumes by notes.

23:33 to 26:10. I do think that people take the gender marketing of perfumes too seriously these days. Makes me wonder what I've been missing out on as a male.

As it might need no introduction, being a fraghead is a total money pit. A lot of impulsive decisions and I don't even end up using those bottles. This is getting way out of hand. I'm sure a lot of you at some point would have gone through this phase. I really want to have it under control. Any advice? I could really use them.

I live in Japan, and over here there is a whole lot more culture around incense than there is anything about perfumes. Don't get me wrong, as the biggest city in the world, we got plenty of designer and niche fragrances anyhow, but incense is a big deal here. There is even a traditional art form called kōdō (香道) the “way of scent" that focuses on heated chips of different woods. (Mostly oud woods of different nuances.)

One of the popular ways that is practiced is to smell in turn 5 different warmed up oud chip of different origin and create a mental image of each fragrance. Then you get to smell these 5 same oud chips in a different order and you have to guess which one was which. Of course, this happens in the most traditional and ceremonial Japanese fashion.
Well, that's freaking cool to me.

There is also powdered incense used in temples, and burning incense of a thousand kinds… so much fragrance, no alcohol.

One of my girlfriends also is from Senegal and over there they practice what the Arab call Bakhour, sometimes pure agarwood chips but most commonly, incense mix pads that are used in fumigation for clothes and the house. That smells divine and very different from western perfumery…

Years ago i bought a bar soap from GAP. It smelled great! Just like one of their fragrances. My girlfriend complemented me all the time. It is now discontinued but is anybody here into great smelling soap?

I have 100ml bottles of both Bleu de Chanel EDP and Parfum so thought I would give my thoughts in case anyone is interested and would welcome any comments or other opinions.

EDP

A smooth grapefruit opening which is fresh but with a nice depth to it. It has some of the zingy out of the shower freshness of the EDT but it is much smoother and well rounded. For this reason this scent is very versatile and could be used daytime or nighttime, and in both casual and formal situations.

The sillage of the EDP is very potent. A few sprays and you will have a strong scent bubble around you so it’s best to be careful with how many sprays you use. Longevity is pretty good.

I wear this when I just want to smell good and not take a risk- for example on a first date. I had one girl text me the next day saying I smelt amazing and asking what it was. I’ve received a few other compliments on this so it’s definitely a pleasing scent to most people. I guess the downside is it isn’t that interesting and a lot of people might recognise it due to the popularity of the EDT.

Parfum

Spraying the EDP and Parfum on each hand, the difference for the first 10 mins or so is negligible. However after a while the differences start to emerge. The “blue” aquatic freshness of the EDP is gone, and instead a deep, darker lavender emanates from the Parfum. It has added sandalwood which makes it more woody. I prefer the scent to the EDP- it is denser, less generic and smells more sophisticated. I would say this is best used in the evening. The projection is not as good as the EDP- it is more subtle which is not a bad thing but may garner less complements as a result. Longevity is similar but for the price it could be a lot better, considering it is not far off the costs of some Creed and Parfums de Marly fragrances.

Overall I prefer the scent of Parfum and find it to be more interesting than the EDP, but performance and versatility of the EDP is slightly better. It is unnecessary to have both like I do unless you love the Bleu de Chanel scent DNA and want it to be your signature. I’ll probably use the EDP for daytime use and the Parfum for evenings.

Does anyone else have experience with either or both? Which do you prefer?

https://i.imgur.com/NQbdw6A_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium I knew it would be a scent I would like but I’m not quite in a big spending mood so this $7 bottle will have to do for now. :)

I'm still very new to fragrance and I'm trying to expand my vocabulary and understanding of perfume composition, especially the differences between florals. What can I do do get a better grasp on fragrance notes, that's ideally free or inexpensive? I live in Chicago if you have any Chi-specific recommendations. Has anyone tried the kits recommended by Luca Turin? They're a little more expensive than I'd like but I'd be interested to hear from people who have used them.

Hey guys! Just got a few samples so I'm gonna try and give those who might be interesting in similar scents an idea of what they're like! This is my first time doing this and my nose isn't amazing, but they say be the change you want to see and I'm always looking for more impressions on this sub.

With that in mind, I'm gonna get into it! I'm just gonna give my first impressions of all the frags I picked up in alphabetical order and close with what I liked/didn't, what will be worth giving a full wear, and what I'm already considering buying.

A Lab on Fire: Hossegor

This was an amazing pleasant surprise. It's a super subtle frag that smells a lot like the way it's advertised: a seaside town in the summer. Definitely a day/warm weather frag. Plenty of floral and sea notes.

Amouage: Beach Hut Man

Another super summery frag. Less sea notes and more floral than Hossegor, but love it for just that reason. The notes are super green, smells like grass and ivy in a very good way. Definitely could be a summer daily if that's what you're looking for

Amouage: Beloved Man Wow, this one was just... really bad. With such a high price and exclusivity I was super underwhelmed with Beloved. First whiff of it is super super sweet, slowly turns into a soapy floral. Not a fan at all.

Amouage: Reflection Man

I like this one. It's one of the first really sweet frags I've smelled that doesn't immediately smell feminine as a result. Still a little sweet for my personal taste, but I still think it smells pretty great. Lots of floral notes that I can't pick out.

Auphorie: Miyako Extrait

Like many of my other buys, opens really sweet. However, this one's a leather frag at heart. In the end, while I don't dislike this one as much as Beloved, the sweet floral leather ends up feeling like soapiness. Second least liked of the bunch.

Maison Francais: Baccarat Rouge 540 EdP

Man, I really needed to lay off the sweet frags. However, despite the super fruity sweetness of this one, I still really loved it. The spiciness of the almond cuts it a little while adding a unique note that I haven't smelled in any other frag recently. Probably my recommendation for a sweet night frag.

Maison Margiela: By the Fireplace

Worth the hype. Super complex fragrance that almost reminds you of toasting marshmallows with friends in a forest clearing, but in a way that's not as immature as that may sound. I'm not gonna write a ton here because I'm just not really sure how to do it real justice in words. Everyone should smell this.

Maison Margiela: Jazz Club

Another almost indescribable scent. Sweet, but not overwhelming. Smoky in a way that feels refined and sophisticated, a really subtle tobacco note. Smells like the best glass of liquor money can buy. Another one that I'd recommend everyone to smell in their lifetime.

Parfums de Marly: Layton

More sweetness, surprise. This one is a vanilla frag, but you better like to commit to the vanilla attitude because the fruit notes don't do much besides sweetening it further. Like Reflection, good in a way that I wouldn't wear.

YSL: Tuxedo

Sweet and spicy. Comparable to Baccarat Rouge in the way that they're both sweet in a way that's cut in a complex way, but this one has more of a Eastern-style spice to it than the almonds of BR. Both are really good.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Lots and lots of sweet frags, most of which were really really good. Brief tl;dr on how I'd rate each one:

Disliked: Beloved Man, Miyako Extrait

Decent, fine but wouldn't buy: Reflection Man, Layton

Liked: Beach Hut Man, Hossegor, Tuxedo, Baccarat Rouge

Incredible: By the Fireplace and Jazz Club

Sorry this was so long. If you got this far, hope it helped and thanks for reading!

Does anybody else have a problem with fragrantica pop-ups ?

A lot of times I get sent to one of those cancerous malware ads that are irreversible so I have to close the tab and open a new one to go into fragrantica, only for the page to redirect me to another malware ad page within seconds.

Sometimes this is repeated up to 4 times in a row.

I was trying to read the article about PDM Kalan and the page redirected me 3 times in a row I just had to get this off my chest lol
