    Yasser al-Dahla, former leader of the rebel group "Gathering of the Youth of Baggara" was assassinated today in Deir Ezzor. Dahla returned to Deir Ezzor w/ the SDF to fight ISIS, but since then has run afoul of the SDF's leadership & previously survived 3 assassination attempts.

    Streets, squares & shops in Aksaray and Fatih are noticeably less busy than usual. I could still see families out, but many young men are staying indoors. A friend with a kimlik issued in Hatay but works in Istanbul told me "you make 100 calculations before you leave the house."

    Syrians in Istanbul are wasting so much of their time avoiding places where there is police presence due to fear they'll be caught with a kimlik (temporary protection card) issued by a different province & deported to Idlib. Many have entirely stopped using the metro.
