Typical. Promotion by killing. Abu Luqman kidnapping and personally killing his JN boss in Raqqa in 2013 – thus proving his loyalty to Baghdadi and becoming the Wali of the Islamic State in Raqqa (from this report: )

We are not supposed to believe the Islamic State in Mozambique (first screenshot, twenty men) is stronger than the cells shown in Turkey or Tunisia (2nd and 3rd). For now.

Videos of various groups pledging allegiance to Baghdadi from many countries – released as chapters of the series "And the Best Outcome Is for the Righteous" – are not directly proportional to the actual strength of the groups. They are symbolic. Turkey is the most egregious case

Save the name, al Jadah just south of Qayyarah. We'll see this name coming up in many propaganda releases of the Islamic State and in many future reports about them. By the way, that area between Qayyarah and Shirqat has always been risky

A name to mention – Abu Barakat, aka Salem Dangou. Allegedly he is the real leader of all the sarayas of the Islamic State in Libya, which allegedly were three in 2017 (source: Reuters, September 28, 2017) – – – End for now

And the sarayas from Sirte? My understanding is they met those from Benghazi and then were wiped off in the double US airstrike in January and February 2017 south of Sirte. That could explain how we have footage showing a meeting (see screenshots, same video September 2017)

Also, his saraya is now allegedly named after a jihadi killed in Benghazi 20 years ago. The choice makes sense somehow

Here he is speaking in a video released in September 2017. Now you can see why Abu Musab al Libi / Mahmoud al Bar'asi was the obvious choice to lead the bay'a released from Libya a few days ago

Hamza al 'Quri was killed in a US drone strike in November 2018 near al Fuqaha. They were targeting "concentrations of forces", probably discovered his saraya. Here he is speaking in a video released in September 2017

The saraya "Abu Zubayr al Tunisi” was led by the former deputy of al Bar'asi in Benghazi (of course). His name was Hamza al'Quri aka Abu Uthman here speaking after an attack near Ajdabiya's Gate 60 in 2018

According to a report published in 2018, the sarayas we see in the videos released in 2017 and 2018 are "saraya houda", named after Mahmoud al Bar'asi's nickname, and "saraya Abu Zubayr al Tunisi" – I believe Al Tunisi was an Islamic State fighter killed in Benghazi in late 2015

The presence of Abu Musab al Libi / Mahmoud al Bar'asi now opened my eyes. The "desert sarayas" of the Libyan Islamic State are not the remnants of Sirte – they mainly are the veterans of Benghazi, plus a lot of recruits from Tebu clans and from abroad

We know that after the defeats in Sirte and Benghazi the Islamic State survivors reorganized in small platoons waging a sporadic guerrilla in Libya. A platoon is generically known as a "company of the desert", سرايا الصحراء, saraya al sahra
