At some point I questioned my own sanity, like maybe I was dreaming or whatever because regime has truly excelled in lying, they deny pretty much everything but that was a gunfire sound you bastards

One of their most famous and hilarious lies published by a pro regime channel was that the people of Midan Damascus weren't really protesting the regime, they went out from the mosque and there were very few ppl who only chanted for god, Syria and freedom

so, very few ppl only mild chants (nothing about Bashar) and during the protest it rained and in a custom that Damascenes have the people there were thanking god for the BLESSING OF THE RAIN! so they literally reported that Damscenes gathered to thank godhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNPrw6mVgTE …

So back to Lattakia a bit, the regime didn't only rally his forces in the army for the operations against dissenting Sunni neighborhoods, they armed neighboring Alawite youth in a bid to strengthen the sectarianism already manifesting itself in wild rumors on each side

Assad made sure Alawites were in this for the long haul, he made sure that Sunnis knew that their Alawite neighbors were killing them this time.

Why did I say "this time"? because in April there were widespread rumors on each side that the other is gonna invade their area, I remember the neighbors literally discussing this from their balconies, saying that we literally have no weapons so if they come it's over

No purge style invasions occurred, however a massacre occurred right in my area that was aimed to dispel a peaceful sit in. But the rumors and the fear reigned in Lattakia anyway.

On an international level, August was the month when Obama finally spelled out the magic word everyone wanted him to spell, we saw him say it about others before and they all bit the dust so why isn't he saying it yet!

Syria commentators, civilians and reporters were all anticipating if Obama will say the magic words "Assad must go" The big fat bummer is that by the time he said it, everyone knew that it was a little too late, I remember the disappointed looks on people's faces

Because they knew that he wasn't going to back up what he said. However the fatal mistake was that revolutionary people didn't act accordingly, they still had some hope in the intl community, a hope that would prove to be utterly childish with every barrel bomb and chemical one

Back to this thread again, I remembered that I didn't include an important event that happened during the massive Hama July protests, US ambassador @fordrs58 visited the city that day in order to witness the protest, and according to what he said later, to send a message to Assad

his visit at the time gained him a great reputation between Syrians because they interpreted his visit as a sign from the intl community and the US that they'll stand by us, which wasn't the case.

Now I'll talk about the two main Syrian army defectors that were created in the course of the revolution, the FSA and the Free Officers Movement, the first one to be created was the FOM (I guess I'm the first to use cause they ceased to exist by the time acronyms were the thing)

The Free Officers Movement, also called the Free Officers Brigade) was a Syrian rebel group that operated during the early phase of the Syrian Civil War in 2011. The group consisted of defected officers and soldiers from the Syrian Armed Forces. (Wikipedia)

The group was formed by lieutenant colonel Hussein Harmoush who defected in June 2011 with some soldiers here Harmoush is seen announcing the formation while emphasizing on the peaceful and non sectarian nature of the protests and calling for democracyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z7nO8FiMEA …

FOM later joined arms with the Free Syrian Army and merged in one body. Also Harmoush had to flee bcz of security issues and was kidnapped from Turkey to Syria later and the regime published his "confessions" to aiding terrorists, he looked beaten and tired

The FSA was created by a number of defected Syrian officers and soldiers who could not shoot at their fellow Syrians, they were led by Colonel Riyad Al Asad, a colonel in the Syrian Air Forces..

..who called for his fellow military men to defect as well and to refuse to shoot at civilians (as they should obvs) he also smartly noted that the army and all its military men are exposed to Assad's propaganda so they do not know at first that they're being led to shoot at us

The Free Syrian Army is in no way an organised entity that has clear branches or whatever, it was created by various defectors who were hiding in various places, often unable to organize themselves in an effective way, we can talk about their shortcomings all day but not now

Back to Lattakia August 2011, by that time one of the most effective and large protests and sit ins were happening in AlRaml AlJanoubi or AlRaml AlFisitini (Palestinian Sand), a struggling neighborhood by the sea

This neighborhood was a Palestinian refugee camp, like the typical camps that were built on tents, the houses there where close & the streets where narrow which offered a great way for activists to hide and organize protests in an effective way by eluding the Mukhabarat

August was the month of army invades all around Syria let's put it that way. So after crushing the sit in in Slaibeh and the massacre there the regime decided that they're risking a Homs like situation where the opposition will intensify in struggling hard-to-get-through places

So they decided to storm it from land and sea since AlRaml was surrounded by sea for a large part, military ships were deployed to the coast & the regime was able to invade it, the land invasion was supported by suppressive fire from ships, thousands of Palestinians& Syrians left
