An important part of being American & not a communist is that politicians ensure the American people remain free to die in poverty from medical bankruptcy. Those without the money can miss out bankruptcy and simply die without medical care. I think its known as MAGA or something.

Education is what helps afford the rest but can’t afford to be educated. The US is the only industrialized country that does not provide free college. We used to have it, but GOP Reagan changed it when gov of CA. Always the GOP taking from the middle class until no longer exists

Medcines interetsing as it becomes less efficent as it improves, unlike pretty much everything else, when we make better medicine, people live longer and therefore cost more in the long run as they will require even more healthcare, which AFAIK happens in no other industry.

Where’s your source that hospital services are the most subsidized? Others are arguing the difference is what can be off-shored or outsourced vs what can’t be, seems just as plausible.

Look up stats with the CBO. The government spends almost a trillion dollars every year in healthcare subsidies. Couple that with restrictions on insurance and tying insurance to our employers, and we have bloated hospital bills.

Medical services and college are two sectors which have significant USA government payment assistance, via medicare/medicare and student loans. No price competition because Uncle Sam always pays.
