NYT is right that the Gulf countries, esp Qatar and UAE are engaged in serious game in Somalia. Couple years ago, a video of the UAE ambassador in bed with a Somali assistant was taped and distributed among certain Somali circles.

Last year, pro-UAE Somali politicians were taped plotting with the UAE ambassador. This tit for tat subversive behavior have been going on for a long time but this latest iteration is the most damning of them all and implicates Qatar in state sponsorship of terror in Somalia.
