    Good for the U.S. Syria envoy James Jeffrey & all those enjoying Aspen and laughing at his jokes. But I’ve just been on the ground in today with Turkish backed forces and not a damn thing funny about the whole situation. Not one thing.

    The U.S. is still trying to work out this "safe zone" with Turkey, Jeffrey says, which would lead to Turkish forces pulling back from the border. How's it going, asks?…

    The war in is not at an end for the people I meet in FSA controlled areas. It’s not at an end for those in ’s torture prisons and it is most definitely NOT at an end for the millions of Syrians who remain externally & internally displaced by this war.

    Ask someone for a cigarette in the UK they’ll glare at you & take a £1. In Turkey the packet is produced with a flourish & when they see you’ve finished they offer another. Yes there’s a cost difference but it’s also about kindness & hospitality. Vallahi başka ülkede yaşayamam 🇹🇷
